Afternoon all!

So I've been reading all about care packages and the like and I was wondering what kind of mail / shipping services the nearest and dearest of my fellow Brits are using to send goodies out to K-Land.

I'm arriving in Daejeon in two weeks, and would be delighted to receive the odd box of lovliness from the old folks back home. However, the only one I've found thus far is DHL who charge around 200 for the delivery of a 420 x 480 x 310mm box in 1-6 working days.

There must be a service that charges less and takes longer, right?

Any help would be most gratefully received!

Cheers!

Hey Mate,

I'm a brit and I have been living in Seoul for the past few years. My parents sent me a box of goodies about 2-3 times per year and they just use the good old Royal Mail, its miles cheaper than sending it by DHL or Fed Ex and I've never had a problem with things going missing.

On average it takes about 10 - 12 days for it to arrive and the cost obviously depends on the size/weight of the package.

I usually get my parents to send it to my school address because there is always someone at the school who collects the mail however I have had things sent to my home address. Make sure the package has got a phone number on so the postie can contact you if there is a problem.

Good luck

p.s...make sure you bring plenty of tea bags if you are a tea drinker, the tea bags in korea are crap

pm me if you got anymore questions

Ta very much, chaps!

I'll certainly look into that.

And have no fear.. I've already packed a shedload of Yorkshire Tea!

Cheers!

RM Surface mail can take forever. I posted 7x2kg boxes of books to Korea ahead of coming out here in August 07. The post office said they'd take up to 12-weeks. 4-boxes arrived at about the 3-month mark, 2 arrived after 4-months and one turned up in Feb 08, so be warned if you're thinking of using the cheaper option, especially if it's stuff you need.

Royal Mail charge about 20 I think for up to 2kg. Anything above rises to about 50. Service is pretty good though and takes about a week from door to (my) door.

Yeah, everything over 2 kg seems to go on a logarithmic price scale.
Boxes can take 2 weeks to arrive and jiffy bags can take as little as 6 days by airmail. Things like Easter eggs will be checked by customs adding a few weeks to the time.
