|
|
I received a phone call from my recruiter tonight, expecting him to give me the visa number to bring to the consulate, however he had bad news. He said my school is one of 50 hagwons in Daegu that are being investigated by immigration for illegal practices. He says that there are 150 hagwons in Daegu, and 50 of them are under investigation, and cannot immigration cannot issue work visas for the school until it is cleared up.
He said that they are unable to tell him what other schools are under investigation, and said "30 percent of them are under investigation, so I recommend checking out a different city".
I've been waiting for a while and it sounds like now I'm going to have to wait longer. This all seems a little sketchy. Any thoughts? |

Waiting. That's your big mistake.
There exists, by jove, a finger between your ring finger and your index finger. Hold this finger up while holding all other fingers on one hand down and point it in the direction of this outfit. After that, look for another outfit. |

There are way more than 150 hagwons in Daegu. The number that employ foreigners *may* only be 150 but that number still seems a little low. |

Maybe that 150 are the ones in the hagwon umbrella or the ones outside of it. |

I think it's 53 schools that are under investigation. That's up from the 48 that were under investigation last month. And the 51 that were under investigation last year at this time, and the 39 that were on February 12, 1998. |

If a Hagwon is under investigation, is it true that the authorities intervene and do not allow that Hagwon to hire more foreign teachers until the investigation is over? |

That has to be the best recruiter's story I have ever heard. There is no way it is true. You said you were waiting a long time for your visa and now you are told to think of another city. Surprise Surprise; and your recruiter just happens to have a great job in that other city that he can shift your documents to. (correct) All this , rather than tell you that hagwon you were going to failed to get its registration for having a foreign teacher approved.
The "getting investigated story" has just grown to sound better than it should be.
How long have your documents been waiting for immigration to issue the number. If they were really in immigration from your employer to start with, the recruiter wont be able to get them back to give to you for another city.
Get wise and demand your documents back now Do not wait one more day. |

Yes, this is pretty fishy. The recruiter is probably just playing games with you to get you where he wants you to go for whatever reason. Try another one and see what they say. |

True.
Both numbers seem low. It sounds like someone is pulling the OP's leg. |
