Anyone here know anything about these universities? If so, please PM me or post here. And if anyone can compare and contrast between them, I would really appreciate. I'm considering doing my Master's in Education online, but can't decide which university to take.
Thanks a lot. |

Sorry Girlygirl, I don't have any info
But I do have a few Qs:
i) are both these M.Eds online?
ii) do both have practicuums/practical components, so that they lead to teacher certification (which would allow their graduates to teach in public schools)?
...and, if yes to ii)
iii) how long do they take?
iv) how much do they cost?
Thanks...and simple, point-form answers is good! |

I would like to stand corrected, but as far as I know there are no M.Ed in Canada that actually leads to teacher certification. If you want to become certified, that means doing practicums in the province you wish to be certified. Good luck doing that online. The process for me to get certified has been time and resource consuming...I did not do it online, but rather enrolled in a B.Ed program in Canada. |

It's kind of obvious, isn't it?
Athabasca University only offers Master of Education in Distance Learning.
University of Calgary, on the other hand, offers a much broader selection of programs in education.
I got my Bachelor of Professional Arts from Athabasca University and have no complaints in regards to the quality of the program and the tutors offered.
In the end, I suspect that you'd be better off getting your masters from University of Calgary, since it's a traditional brick and mortar university that offers several programs by distance. That would give your degree a greater level of recognition and acceptance on the international level (though both universities are equally good).
Umm... also, be ready to pay the same amount as what international students have to pay, even if you are a Canadian (if you plan to study while being outside of Canada).
Keep in mind, University of New Brunswick offers Master of Education: Curriculum Studies for half the amount you'd be shelling out in Alberta.
If you find something else, let me know, since I too am looking.
At this point, programs offered in Alberta are too costly. |
