Kilboy6,
What was your $80 course like?
Sounds like a fine deal. EPIK acknowledged it? |
I haven't actually done it yet...moving to Korea in September and starting it now...seems easy enough apart from a 2000 word essay requirement which won't be too much fun.
According to their site (and according to a poster here on Dave's who alerted me to it) this course is accepted for the pay rise in Korea.
No idea about actually doing it in Korea though...although I don't see why it's any business of theirs what part of the world you're in when you do an online course! |
I sent them an e-mail to confirm if it can be done in Korea or not. This is the reply
---
Thanks for your e-mail.
That is correct - the reason is due to an agreement entered into with the
Korean Ministry of Education (Seoul and Pusan and Goechang Boards of
Education) which requires an attendance based course.
The next intensive course is in Pusan on the 14-15 (next weekend)
If you need more information please let me know
Sincerely |

Hmm so it won't get you the pay rise?
Hell it might just be worth doing it anyway for the price it will cost. |

Is this just for people already in Korea? Really confused now, as on their website it says : "The Korean Board of Education accepts this TESOL for the pay rises per EPIK GEPIK contracts."
I'm hoping the attendance requirement is only for people already in Korea. Any ideas? I guess I'll try to contact them and find out. |

It seems several people are confused. Yes, getting the certificate from TESOL global will allow a pay rise from korean institutions, like EPIK.
The thing is that since Korea reached an agreement where courses taken for TESOL certification in Korea must be done with attendance, supposedly, one cannot enroll TESOL online while in Korea. |

You note you are in the USA coming to Korea for EPIK. The course is
avaialble for non Korean residents (teachers) - thus you qualify as you
are not in Korea yet. |
Just received the above from tesol-global. com via email.
This confirms from the horses mouth what we have already concluded here

| But can you complete it during your contract? I will be starting in Epik this month. I am wondering if I would get a pay rise the month after completing the certificate. I know the SMOE and GEPIK teachers do. |
