So I contacted a recruiter about a PS job in a southern province. I send him my resume and he contacts me the following day, bragging about his "connections" with the Board of Education, promising to get me the best job in the region. Yeah, yeah...I think to myself.
So the recruiter states that he is hopping a plane to go meet with the BOE to establish what positions are available, and that he will contact me in 3-4 days to confirm.
A week passes and then out of nowhere he calls me at 5AM.
I don't answer. I check my messages 2 hours later upon waking up, and he wants to know if I have all my documents in hand and when I can start.
I email back, tell him he never answered my most basic questions, even though I maintained correspondence during the week. I then inform him that I will no longer be interested in working with him. Who calls at 5am, and who can't figure out the time difference between Korea and North America?
Recruiter replies in a rude tone, tells me I am a rude foreigner, and that he will block me from working in all the province, tells me that working with any other recruiter in the region will fail. He is going to warn the BOE "about me."
What a nutcase. Why can't recruiters just accept the fact that failing to maintain clear and honest communication leads to a lack of trust?? |

I recommend Joyce at Korvia. I would have said maybe this guy was stressed from this time of year but after what he said. F him. |

Sounds similar to the experience that I had early on- Got an unplanned phone call from him on either a cell phone or over a terrible Skype headset and could hardly understand what he was saying. Repeatedly asked him to call me back on a better line and he insisted that he could hear me fine and that I was overreacting.
Imagine my surprise two weeks later when he emailed me requesting my paperwork, and when I explained that I had decided to work with someone else, sent me a snotty email that he was 'confused' about why I had talked to other recruiters and that I had made the wrong choice. Sure thing, buddy. |

I had an idiot tell me that he recruited "directly" for GEPIK
The bigger idiot was me, because I believed him.
He promised to get a position in Madu "within days" because they were in real need of a foreign teacher plus the bonus budget they get for hiring one.
In the meantime, he asked me to send extra pictures, and he stated that he was having lunch with the VP of the school and was too busy to reply via email.
Whats more, he lied to my girlfriend and told her that he was working without pay.
I waited for a week then demanded he send me everything back.
Serena at Korvia found me something good. Korvia is a small outfit, they answer questions and don't play the idiot head games |

at the current rate of approx. 2 million per teacher...
I'm betting he's pretty pissed and figures you cost him money. whatever move on...
recruiting...one of the biggest scams going. i'm so glad I taught my school how to do it themselves because that's a lot of money for books and materials. |

for 2 million a pop I'd be bending over backwards to get teachers over here, not to mention lying like a m-f'er
the guy probably did actually fly somewhere (but for a holiday), and hoped that you'd wait for him.. can't think of any other reason he'd throw away money |

In Korea, it is easier for people to lie and harass than it is to create a positive reputation. At least with the bad recruiters.
I have met a few good recruiters that don't behave like that but they are like a diamond in the ruff. |

I hear a lot of good things about Korvia. I landed my job through ATOP, though. They were okay, and I got the job I selected. They do a lot of the EPIK referrals. It might be worth your time to check with them. I believe the young man's name is Dylan. |
Dylan, buy an ad. |

TbirdMG...that was disgraceful the way the recruiter treated you.
Write his/her email address here so we'll know not to use him. |

There are two categories of recruiters:
1) liar
2) asshole
The person who said they should be bending ass over backwards is correct.
They make far too much money for what they do. |
