|
|
I am also thinking of Korea. A recruiter told me that
Epik it the way to go, its not a greedy hogwan,
and its in Gyeong buk province (she said its a popular
city, well known to expats).
But I did research. I don't know anything about this province.
Also, Epik says it does "Total Physical body learning" what
is this? Do they want the teacher to be a clown, like Japan?
Can someone please give me some advice, what kind
of schoool would be good??
thanks!! |

Okay, you clearly have done no research on EPIK itself, and you really need to do a lot of research before deciding to come to Korea...
EPIK stands for English Program in Korea. It is not a school. Also, it is not in Gyeong Buk province, it is in EVERY province. It is a government funded program that brings native speakers to Korea from around the world, and places them in public schools throughout Korea. |

If you are going to work in any public school in any province, work in Gangwon do. I have been here over six months and have good things to say. The best reason I took this job was the pay was slightly higher than other provinces and we get MASSIVE vacations. I have basically had from December 30th off, I've come in a few days for school graduation and now for a closing day, and now we have another week and a half. So, perspectively, by the time I go back to work March 2nd I will have had 2 months off. Amazing, and I still get paid during all this. The only bad thing is if you are trying to save money it will be hard cause with all this vacation I ended up going to Thailand for 3 weeks!!
Something to think about. |

Another thing OP, take what recruiters tell you with a pinch of salt. Dave's is where you'll get the real lowdown on teaching out here so don't be blind-sided by their empty golden promises. They'll be very pushy in trying to get you to sign at the earliest opportunity. There are good recruiters out there and there are also some pretty shitty ones so take your time and do your homework on here before you agree to anything.
Also, harden up and get in the habit of saying 'No'' over the phone when the start bombarding you with phones calls - which they will - at all hours of the day and night. Once you put out your CV and express a desire to teach over here, you'll get a lot of unwanted attention from recruiters all over. It can be quite daunting and they'll try and put pressure on you. You're only vulnerable if you're gullible. Stay spikey and get in the habit of saying 'not interested' if you don't like the sound of what they're offering. |
