I was offered a public school position in this location. It's the hwaeryong subway station. I have never been to Korea, but is this a good place to live? Plenty to do? I'd appreciate any insight you could give me.
Thanks! |

i don't about your stop specifically, but I'm pretty sure for any kind of nightlife you're gonna have to go to Uijeongbu Station. Uijeongbu isn't bad for your first time, you won't spend a ton of money, but you might find yourself bored on weekends and not wanting to ride the subway for an hour both ways.
you said you're gonna work at a PS? check the Job-related forum because someone there said he had some urgent info about PS in Uijeongbu |

I have lived in Uijeongbu for almost 3 years and currently live close to that area. I'm a big fan of the place. There is a lot of night life and what not depending on what your actually looking for. Seoul is about 40 mins away on the subway from that station, but it does depend on where you want to go.
PM me or respond on here if you wan to know anything specific. |

There's little happening in "the Uij," apart from a handful of HOFs and bars near Uijeongbu station. It's more of a bedroom satellite community. Previous posters are correct. For real nightlife and culture/activity, you'll have to spend 20-30 minutes on the subway heading south. To the north, there is absolutely nothing, except the US army base in Dongducheon and the DMZ at Panmunjeon. And trust me, the great "nature" up there is disappointing and polluted. The southern provinces are much more spectacular. I would prefer to be closer to the center or south river. But if your goal is saving $ and learning the language, Uijeongbu is a good place to be. Very little foreign community there.... |
