I am getting a bit worried about my situation. I can't seem to get my things organized because I am stuck doing desk duty.

Recruiters seem to pull the bait and switch on me. Tell me about a PS job, then two days later - that job's gone but there are all these hagwons . Confused

I would like to be getting my stuff in order and finding a new job, and I worry that by the time I get out of here, there will be nothing left.

Paranoid as usual. Shocked

Will there still be openings in EPIK after the end of FEB?

Thanks

I'm thinking about staying at the same school, forever. You'll meet the same kind of people wherever you go.

I personally can't stand the idea of all the introductory stuff you have to do when you start a new job. Laughing

If schools aren't looking for teachers now, either you got one crappy recruiter or they have been filled already. Try a few other recruiters and see if you get the same.

You could try telling your recruiter (if not close to him) that you ONLY want to work at public schools and won't take hagwon jobs if you think he's pulling bait and switch.

From what I understand Hagwons commision are more, and getting to PS at this point is a load of paperwork.

Being from a strong sales background, I know this technique. They want to see how far they can push you to do what they want. Stay firm about going to Public school.

However, the risk is he only has hagwons. You could always go to a different recruiter though. Tons of recruiters out there...

ANd I might as well throw a plug to Rowan at ESL planet. Look him up, the most beloved recruiter on Dave's ESL cafe. I used him, only the BEST things to say.

Lots of recruiters. Lots of them. If the one you are using has no access to public school jobs, they will string you along until it is too late.

It may already be too late.

If he can transfer his visa it's not too late.

You don't have any sick days left or what? You're desk-warming, it's not like they actually need you, call in sick and get your stuff together. Tell recruiters you're available for interviews then call in sick when you get one. It will make a difference.

Like others have said, work with different recruiters. Two years ago I put my resume on Daves, Worknplay, Englishspectrum, and other sites. I was very clear in my resume that I would only look at public schools. Of course I got a ton of recruiters sending me emails and telling me about hagwon positions. I would send one email and explain that I was looking for a public school job. If they sent me another offer for hagwons I blocked their email address and stopped all contact.

For the most part , recruiters dont care what you want.
For the most part , they dont even read your resume.
Every recruiter I ve dealt with ,as always lied.
Remember ,they want whats best for them , not whats best for you.

Can you take all your PS "sick days" during desk-warming? Seems that they don't want you to take them at all during school, but you do earn them.

Would be great to have a week or two non-stop to look for a new job.
