i know this has been posted before, but the search option was taking forever.
does anyone have a link to the GEPIK payscale?
I have been at my school for 5 years, and i think people in their 3rd year will soon be being paid about as much as me, so i am trying to figure out if i should be grumbling.
part of me says that is BS, i do a heck of a lot more than the average 3rd year teacher, part of me says, that is life, you decided to stay when they didnt give you a raise because of other factors... |

I'm wondering if I should get a bigger pay raise as well. I'm at 2.4 and I'll be starting my 3rd year at my school in March. It will be the start of my 5th year of teaching. I don't think it's really fair that I'll be going from 2.4 to 2.5, while people that are at 2.1 this year will get a bump up to 2.5. |

yeah... the new contract doesnt really talk about that. it just says the usual "employee is subject to a raise of 100,000 if..."
they dont do a good job of retaining teachers... just always focus on getting new teachers.
oh well, that is why i am looking to move on in a few years. |

Those who are going from 2.1-2.5 would be teachers who are beginning their third year too. |

I'm at 2.7 AS a first year teacher at a public school.
Top that
Though I am literally in the middle of no where.

I hope to be one who goes up from 2.1 to 2.5 million won a month, for my next contract.
I think it's fair. |

I realize that, but if I'm currently at 2.4, and I only get moved up to 2.5, I'm losing 300k. Why should someone currently at 2.1 get a 400k raise up to 2.5, but people who are at the top of the current GEPIK payscale only get a 100k raise? |

Presumeable, people that go from 2.1 to 2.5 million won did something to get there, i.e. complete two years and earn a TESOL or masters degree. So perhaps the raise is deserved. |

I just saw the new pay scale since I am in the process of signing my 5th contract at my school. They are trying to follow the SMOE model for teaching categories, but offer less money than SMOE and others actually offer. The max for the Category 1+ is 2.5 million with a possibility of up to 2.7 mil at the discretion of the school each year. If you work in a rural area you will receive the 100,000 rural stipend each month for a grand total of 2.6 mil.
Not complaining as my school has treated me fairly, and I have other things that help add to my income as an F5 resident. The old system was not very good and the new pay scale doesn't take any account of the current dollar to won exchange, but I am not planning on leaving any time soon.
I will try to get a copy for my records and provide some more information if people want it. |

There's a misunderstanding about the recent payscale. 2.5 million is for people who have 4 years of experience, not 2 years. Look closely at the attached file: GEPIK 2009 Payscale. |

I think you may be wrong.
The highest category states if you have 2 consecutive years with GEPIK, a degree and a TESOL certificate, you'll get 2.5.
It just clarifies it must be consecutive years. Doesn't it?!!
You are a bad mouse! |

Category 1+ says you've got to meet Category 1 and have 2 consecutive years. To satisfy Category 1 itself , you've got to have 2 consecutive years and a TEFL certificate.
Other than explicitly categorizing intermediate steps of pay that are reached with years of service, I don't see how the pay scale has fundamentally changed since last year's. |

Category 1 states you need 2 years of experience at accredited institutions, category 1+ states they need to be consecutive years.
I hope I am right. |

You're right about the consecutive years clause being left out within Category 1's requirements. However, they didn't mean to leave that out. You're hoping against hope if you think you'll jump up to Category 1+ so easily and wildly. |

If they didn't mean to do so, why is it still in black and white?
How do you know they didn't mean to leave it out of Category 1?
Are you a GEPIK coordinator or something?!!
You're right, I'd like 2.5, but more importantly I want to know what the facts are.
Dain Bae told me I'd be on 2.5, but she may not have understood my story, it's possible.
If I understand the categories correctly, I'd be on 2.5 next contract.
If I am entitled to jump to 2.5, that wouldn't be wild, it would be something I'm entitled to.
I may be wrong. |
