Folks, in case you missed the Expat Times on Friday:
Quote: |
The Photo Challenge is back, and this time it has great prizes and wider participation. Last year's Photo Challenge featured only bragging rights, 2009's Photo Challenge winners will receive a 50,000 won credit to Namdaemun's best photography store (Hyosung Camera, www.hcamera.co.kr), a Babo t-shirt (www.baboshirts.com) and bragging rights.
The Seoul Photo Club is an online-based society focused on taking, sharing, thinking and talking about photos and photography in Korea.
Though the name is "The Seoul Photo Club," the club is definitely not restricted to members residing only in Seoul. In fact, many of our most prolific and talented photographers come from elsewhere in Korea - even as far afield as Jeju.
Geographical location in Korea is no barrier to participation. SPC members also have a wealth of experience in both film and digital photography and with software tools, both Mac and PC-based. As a result, you can get good advice, opinions, or just interact with like-minded and keen photographers from all over Korea. It's a great way for those new to photography to pick up some handy tips and for those with a bit more experience to be able to share and interact.
You can also see and contribute to the many wonderful photos that fellow members regularly post to the group pool.
As part of our ongoing association with The Korea Herald, the SPC is holding challenges for weekly prizes and publication in Expat Living. There is also a monthly themed challenge, in which the prize includes a dedicated half-page publication spot in Expat Living. Regular prizes are either a 50,000 won credit on anything in-store or a free weekly nominated item from the wonderful people at Hyosung Camera in Namdaemun, Seoul and also great shirts from the creative team at Baboshirts.com. The challenges are open to members of the SPC and as the challenges are every week all regular participants are in with a good chance of being published.
Unlike the open weekly contests, the monthly challenges will be themed, meaning all entries will have a common theme as indicated in the challenge rules for that particular month. Look for topics such as urban landscape, portraits, old meets new and some timely seasonal and festival themes.
If you are out there somewhere in Korea and like the idea of perhaps getting your photo in the paper (great souvenir of your time in Korea), not to mention some nice prizes, log on and join up at the SPC at www.flickr.com/groups/seoulphotoclub

Cheers. |

As part of the reward for success in the weekly and monthly challenges, the Korea Herald are putting on an exhibition for the winners sometime in summer. The exact date and location are to be determined, but there are printing and framing sponsors on board. The prints will be 11x14, matted and framed. The challenge winners will book their place in the exhibition, ie. you won't be locked in to exhibiting the winning pic. |
