|
|
I had a meeting with work about my upcoming plans as my contract finishes in April. I spoke with them earlier about extending my contract till June as I was keen on making a bit more cash and buying some time before deciding what to do next. Today during the meeting they informed me that you can no longer extend for such a short amount of time and they would have to check on whether I'd be able to extend for six months, my next preferred option.
Last Friday, my friend who's a recruiter mentioned the same thing (about only being able to extend for six months or more). At the time, I just brushed it off as he recruits for public schools and assumed he was just mentioning this in regards to public schools, which would make sense in regards to school terms, etc.
Has anyone else heard of this? A couple of years ago I extended a pre-existing contract a couple of times for three months and six months respectively no problem at all. Has there been some further restrictions put on this or is it a convenient load of bs from my boss?
I checked out http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html but couldn't find anything specific in regards to this.

You can extend for two days if you want.
It sounds like they want you there for 6 months and no less. |

| Call 1345 and ask them yourself. Be sure to ask for the name of the person you're speaking to, in case you get to the immi office and they tell you something different. |

| Goes against all logic since there are too many reason to get any length of extension from your passport expiring at a certain date to your contract ending at at a certain date. |

Thanks ajuma, I'll call that number and find out what's the deal.
Though, like the other posters, I'm somewhat dubious at this point. But, I will find out for sure after calling the number and pass it on here. I don't mind working the extra 6 months but would appreciate honesty, if this does end up being a convenient piece of face-saving bs to get me to stay for longer I won't be too impressed. |

One of my teachers extended her working visa for 1 week. She needed the contract, our business number and proof of work, as well as 30,000 won and a form she picked up at the immigration office.
She did this yesterday. |

Whaddayaknow!
I called and it's definitely possible to extend for 2/3 months with your current employer as long as you have the required documents. The lady on the phone was most adamant that it's possible and almost sounded like I was silly for asking!
Thanks for the comments above I had become increasingly wary of the information provided to me by boss yesterday after these comments and wasn't surprised at all when I heard the news from Immigration.
Naturally trust has largely gone out the window with my boss and I'm going to give it a bit of time to pursue my options. Needless to say I'll be letting her know of my conversation with Immigration and will not under any circumstances be signing any 12 month contract with a supposed six month clause.
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers! |
