|
|
I completed my research into ATEK and kept a copy of all their pages on their websites, postings, blogs and newspaper articles.
Today I noticed something that was changed on their website. Most notably, the membership costs.
The old ATEK page showed this:
How much does membership cost?
Anyone can join as an associate member for 30,000 won a year. Those on E and F series visas who are employed as English teachers can purchase a general membership (which entitles them to vote and hold office) for 40,000 won a year.
The NEW price was changed as of today and now is listed as this:
How much does membership cost?
Membership is free. Anyone can join as an associate member. Those on E and F series visas who are employed as English teachers in Korea can join as general members.
I found this very interesting since I've pointed this out several times. Of course I have the original pages of the entire website and all ESL cafe postings before they were deleted. I have them both on file and printed on paper. What I find interesting is that these actions can strongly suggest ATEK is now trying to cover up its actions from the past that could create them serious problems. In particular, the CEO of ATEK who is on an F-5 visa who is in a precarious position at this moment in time.
The fact that ATEK has changed their membership fee is irrelevant. The fact is that at the time the email for the petition to support their drive was done, the membership fee was listed as a sum above zero. Changing it now has no effect. They changed it to pretend that it never happened.
I'm nearly complete with my report. The documentation alteration can only show further that not only did ATEK do something wrong, but it also has tried to conceal its actions by changing its homepage as well as I would strongly suspect of having the postings on this forum removed as well since what Tony wrote cannot be taken back when the pages are saved on a HD. This is the first thing I did during this past week. Everything said and argued is still present regardless of what the mods here have done.
In the suit, I am legally filing a complaint against both ATEK, Prof, Wagner and all the E-class visa holders who have filed a complaint with the KNHRC. The reason I'm filing against the E-class visa holders is simple. The complaint is not real, and was done to support an organization that was aimed at gaining support for a larger future paying membership base.
ATEK even provided two written styles of writing to submit your complaint with. Not much different than handing someone a confession and saying sign here, later claiming that the words on the paper are your own and by your own initiative. ATEK knows this and I know this. By participating in this act, one may very well claim that the recent complaints that were filed by E-class visa holders are in essence fraudulent. The law does not allow the KNHRC to protect the privacy of those who file fraudulent claims (a political act). Those names will also become involved.
After I file my complaint, I will be posting the entire report (if permitted) and you'll need to be patient since there is a lot of sweeping under the rug going on at ATEK. Any changes in their homepage not only shows that they were hiding their illegal activities, but they've finally realized that yes, this is going to be a very messy affair.
As Tony said to me.. Tsk Tsk. (bad choice of words).

Believe it or not, I've had some homeless teachers live at my place for a few months at at time when they had no money to their name. They later managed to get a new job and get back on their feet to eventually move on to another chapter in their life.
As for your personal info that was listed earlier. I'd have to say that I've enjoyed your podcasts and was pleased to finally match a face to some work that's helped the community here for the better.
Cheers

The funny thing about it is that the mods seem to delete it before I even get a chance to see it. At this point, it seems to be driving a great number of hits to my site.
Perhaps I should be thanking someone? |

How did someone get your personal information? What have they posted about you here? Just your name or what? |
Not difficult to figure out. Anyone can google my name and find my school's page and photos. I'm assuming they responded to one of my many "for sale" ads or something of that nature.
My podcast has gotten me on more than one news venue as of late, so hiding my identity is not really a priority. There are others with blogs/sites in town who have had similar issues with socially disadvantaged individuals. It's nothing new. I've offered to meet this person for a beer, but it hasn't happened yet. |

These E-class visa holders you are sueing, over one hundred people btw, who filed human rights complaints with the KNHRC, do you have these people's names? The KNHRC are required bythe U.N. to not release these names to the Korean government, why would they give them to you? How would you be able to sue people that you cannot even name? Will it say "one hundred and six unnamed foreigners" in your suit??? |

I'm not suing ATEK. I'm filing a formal criminal complaint against ATEK (and an associate) for doing things that both violate their visa status as well as trying to politically lobby the gov't by using Prof. Wagner as a proxy via that KNHRC.
Prof. Wagner may be filing his report at the request of ATEK since he has no real legal standing to file such a complaint. If that's the case, and Prof. Wagner has been advising ATEK, then he is also responsible for activities since his consultation goes beyond the realm of 'simple advice' which is not hard to prove with the measure of reasonable foreseeability.
I fully understand that we're playing with the livelihoods of quite a few individuals. They may lose everything and their careers can be shattered. You need to be very careful, don't exaggerate and always back up your claims with supporting proof. Connect the dots and show the authorities the picture you've have after connecting them.
The authorities here are not exactly what I would derive as stellar in quality of investigative practice. You need to make it clear, concise and easy to follow. Make it irrefutable. ATEK is covering its tracks and trying to erase evidence of its activities. Those days are long gone and by changing their pages, they could indeed be charged with other crimes as well.
The authorities will have to decide what happens. The complaint will be translated tonight and go through internal mail by both electronic file as well as in paper form.
I'll keep you posted.

Yes, you have set out to destroy a large group of people, using a government agency that would like nothing better than to put a stop to what could well be an internationally embarassing event for the Korean government. |

I was just wondering why does it really matter to you. It seems that you are being spiteful. What did they do to you to make you hate them so much? |

I remember your website from years back. It had lots of pics of your highschool girl students. At the time I thought it was a tad bit raunchy considering your age and the close-ups of all the girls. Oh well, it might have been just me...

I worked at a girls' high school. The photos were hardly explicit in nature by any means. They were typical school photos any teacher would take -- what "raunchy" close-ups were you referring to? The Korean administration at my school loved my page. Sounds like you're just trying to create talk out of nothing. |

The way I see it...
Chicken let ATEK know almost 2 weeks ago now that he had a problem with their actions. He told them that what they were attempting to do could affect his family and told them if they continued along this path he would be forced to try to stop them in the only way he could, via a legal complaint.
This was two weeks ago. At any point in the last two weeks, Tony could have prevented all this by simply saying publicly or privately to Chicken "ATEK's first action was a mistake. We got excited about Professor Wagner's report, and we acted without contemplating the possible consequences. We will NOT pursue our "Equal Rights for All" campaign any longer. Our board is now plotting our next course of action and we hope that when we resurface we will have the support of ALL foreign English teachers in Korea."
I imagine this would cause Chicken to cease his anti-ATEK complaint and everyone would be able to calm down and reconcile. Instead, Tony's every post has been the nonsense "Corporate Speak" that seems like is saying something but really says nothing.
"Please read Professor Wagner's report. It will answer all your questions."
"Of course you can read it. It is available to all. Please read it."
"No, you can read it. I promise."
"Oh wait, nevermind. You can't read it. It's super-secret and confidential. I've read it though, and it's awesome."
And at the same time his attack dogs buymybook and Col. Brandon have compared him to a Nazi and insinuated that his marriage was a sham marriage in order to obtain a visa. They essentially dared Chicken to file the complaint.
So don't feel bad for ATEK. They made a mistake, but they had plenty of time to correct it. The fact that they were too arrogant or stubborn to do so just proves this is not the group we want representing us. |

I think the attack dog stuff sounds pretty bad. Not cool.
What I don't understand is how what ATEK did could "hurt" someone's family? Requiring criminal background checks of F-2-1 visas would be inconvenient for people like Chicken (and myself), but how would it "hurt" us to do so? |
