Finally got my CRC from Canada, took it to the Canadian consulate to get
whatever they have to do done to it, paid my fee, signed all the forms and was surprised to learn that they wouldn't give the thing back to me.

Shocked

They told me that is MUST be mailed to me. WTF?

Over a week later, the girl from the consulate calls to see if I got it yet........NO.

Gee thanks, just what I needed.

Has anyone else had something like this happen?

Let me guess: Toronto consulate?

I've had nothing but success in Ottawa's embassy, and frustration like you wouldn't believe in Toronto's consulate.

They should have given back your CRC on the spot - there's no reason it needs to be mailed.

I went through the process last year in Busan, although not with your unfortunate outcome. The document was supposed to be sent priority or courier or registered or something, maybe you haven't been home to sign for it? Any sticky notes on your door from the post office? Maybe check with the building security guy? Failing that, ask the Cdn Consulate to put a trace on it.

No sticky notes, not with the security guy, nothing.

I'll check again tonight.

What I want to know is, why couldn't they just give it back to me when I was there?

I know, last year I was willing to trek back down to that godforsaken location and pick it up personally, but they insisted that it be delivered

Did they send it as a registered letter (Deung-ki woopyeon)? If so, it can be tracked. If not, go 'postal' on them!

Wow. I almost can't believe that!

I got my CRC from Canada last month. I went in yesterday to the Busan Consulate to have it stamped, I paid my fee and told her that I would like to pick it up and that I would be back tomorrow afternoon to do so. (You know that you can't get same day service for the notarizing/affirmation stamps, right? You have to return the next afternoon.)

She said no problem and, although she took my phone number and mailing address just in case, it was there today at 2pm when I went to get it. This is the second time I've done this in the last month and a half as I had to get a different legal document copied and affirmed.

Did you get a card from the person you were dealing with? What was the person's name with whom you met with? Like I said, I almost can't believe you (but I do, it's Korea. Two people in an office, two different answers. Hell, sometimes, the same person on a different day will give a different answer to you.)

On a different tack....57500 won for them to affirm that you signed that you believe that it's a real document? Are you kidding me!? It's only 20K won for them to look at a document (ex. passport) and a copy and then affirm the copy is a true one!! C'MON! /end rant/

I'm doing mine from here in Korea. I sent it to the FBI and received it back in good time. Then I sent it back to the other office for the apostille. It arrived on Dec. 29 and was sent back on the same day. My deadline was Jan. 23. It never arrived back here.

We waited and waited. In the end I had to do the whole process again. It's expensive and time-consuming. And stressful. According to my mom, she's expecting to receive the stamped form today and will FedEx it here.

Technically, I'm having to work illegally. My school is unhappy. I'm unhappy. Immi is being pleasant about it, but they do have a limit.

I will call them later this morning and find out if they can track it down.

I still need it, even if it's too late.

I couldn't have picked it up the next day, because I had to go back to work, and I know I gave them the correct mailing address. It shouldn't take 2 weeks to get from Busan to Gimhae.

I know they are aware that something is wrong, because they called me this Monday to ask if I had gotten it yet. The only problem with that is that the girl's English skills were so bad, I don't know if she understood what I was saying.

I just got off the phone and she is saying it will take another couple of days. WTF?
