Is it possible to extend out a contract slightly with a public school (if they want that?)
Could I extend 2 or 4 or 6 months out with my visa, rather than re-signing for an entire year?
I would like to stay until the end of the semester in July, but I don't want to do another whole year there. |

It's possible IF you can get the employer to agree to it.
If your employer is EPIK, SMOE, any other city, GEPIK, or any other POE, it's unlikely. If your employer is the school itself, it's more likely the principal will 'cut a deal'. |

Is it possible for a public school to hire me directly?
Right now I'm contracted through GEPIK. Would it be possible for the school to re-hire me without going through GEPIK? |

Yes... but I don't know what GEPIK's policy is in that regard.
At my present job, I'm 'EPIK' and was officially employed by the POE for the first year. I didn't like that because, theoretically, they can send you to any school (or training centre) in the province. When I 'renewed', I told them I wanted to be employed by my school, not the POE. They went for it... I no longer have to go to a 'second' school once a week and have a 'modified' EPIK contract with all sorts of 'goodies'. It helps if the principal and v.p. really like you. |

| SWEET! I'll talk to them about it then. They do really like me... particularly the Principal. THANKS a ton. |

I'm also hoping my school will do a six-month extension at the end of my contract. Mine ends in August, and if I extended six months it would bring me to February, which I think would be a good time to end a contract at a public school. So I'm hoping they'll go for it.
I have no idea if my principal or vice principal even know my name though, let alone whether or not they like me. I've never spoken to either of them because they don't speak a word of English, and my co-teacher is a horrible translator (ie. only translates the little bits she wants to). They even look confused when I say "hello" to them.
They never bug me about anything though, which is good.
So it must be nice for those of you who can actually speak to your principal. |
