|
|
I'm interested in PS jobs but most (all) of them seem to want blonde hair and blue eyes.
does anyone have experience with or know of gyopos happily employed in PS? is it rare for gyopos to be working at PS?
will I have a better chance at landing a PS job after the semester starts when some schools will be desperately looking for teachers in the aftermaths of having to deal with runners etc.? |

Your citizenship is what matters most to public schools. At our public school there are four native teachers. I'm Canadian, there are two Americans, and one British woman. I'm the only one who is Caucasian and this has never been a problem because we all speak English as our first language.
My eyes are brown and I don't have hair. |

| then why is it that all the recruiters whose PS job ads that I respond to say they want Caucasian teachers? |

that is their "ideal", and their preference, it's been acknowledged to me
(I happen to have the desired blonde/blue, but IDEALLY they would have preferred a female.. I told them I'll start dressing like a tranny. They said, it's ok, you don't have to)
but seriously, even though that might be the "ideal", a good look at the last GEPIK meeting and orientation would have indicated to you tha probably less than 50% of the teachers there would pass the blonde/blue test (I'd say more like 33%) and there were significant percentages of people who were dark(er) skinned, etc. Bunch of gyopos too. Met several of them personally. |

| makes absolute no difference whether it's merely an "ideal" when the recruiters won't even take my resume when I tell them I'm a gyopo. I'm a damn male too. woohoo |

| There are definitely plenty of gyopos at SMOE. Just keep trying different recruiters. Part of your problem right now is that most of the schools have already hired for the year. Perhaps after March there will be some openings as some probably won't show up or pull a runner. |

| yea its true about the ps wanting caucasian female being top of the tier, then male caucasian, female gyopo, male gyopo, etc. obviously there is a hierarchy. it doesnt matter what the qualification but its based more on the image or the gender of what they are looking for. not to say that there arent awesome caucasian teachers but i had to turn down colored teachers even those with more education and more experience because simply the public school wanted caucasian female. it all depends on what the school wants. as a recruiter they have a purposed to serve the clients' need in this case the school and the school answers back to the parents. its sad but true. but i am sure, if you are a gyopo, there will be some ps from GEPIK that specifically want gyopos. if you want something from SMOE, you will have hard time finding it. good luck to ya. |

^ is there a particular reason why there's a better chance for me to land a job with GEPIK than with SMOE?
I really need to stay within the boundaries of Seoul (unless I can get a GEPIK position relatively close to Seoul, say like Ilsan or Bundang)
How unlikely do you think it is for a gyopo like myself to get a position at SMOE? |

from what I understand, SMOE's demand usually outstrips supply so they can be as picky as they want to be, which means you'll probably see more young, blonde females working for SMOE than anywhere else as a percentage of the population (I'd venture to say similar thing for hogwans)
that said, I know there are ads out there, sometimes from even within Seoul that SPECIFICALLY seek gyopos. I would have thought being a gyopo is usually an advantage. Maybe I'm wrong.
look for a gepik school within a reasonable distance to Seoul. |

| I'm a Korean-American guy, and I'm working for SMOE. There were quite a few Korean-Americans at my orientation, so don't get too discouraged by a few recruiters. There are a lot of opportunities out there. |

mind if I ask how you got your position at SMOE?
there are still a LOT of job postings out there but 99.9% of recruiters posting them say the school ONLY want white people. |
