I have been offered a position for 2.2 mil/won. I want to know a little bit about Guru in relation to Seoul and is there plenty to do? I am a 23 yr old teacher and was wondering if this would be a good location to teach for a year as well as having plenty to do? Thank you |

Guro's on the dark blue line about 8 train stops (20 minutes) from Seoul Station. It's not a huge city. There's a lotte mart and an aekyeong store. If you're looking for a nightlife you wont find it here. It has 1 coffee place (that I've found)...
Guro is a quiet little city, it's fairly easy to get around and become familiar with. |

Hi! It depends where in Guro-gu you are actually located. I just moved here from the states and line in Guro-gu and I am on Line 7 on the Subway exit Namguro. I love it here so far! The area I am in is very authentic and not very westernized like some parts of Seoul are. However, a quick subway ride and you can reach westernized areas easily. I am about 30 minutes from Itaewon which is a highly populated area for foreigners. In my neighborhood in Guro-gu I have yet to see another foreigner except my friends who have traveled over here from other points of Seoul to visit me. I would say Guro-gu is a good area if you want to experience a less westernized South Korea. I love everything about my neighborhod and my apartment is HUGE! (Even though I was told it was small). Remember, sometimes pictures can be deceiving. There are lots of stores and restraunts in my neighborhood and everyone speaks Korean. I don't know any Korean really and I have been doing fine so far. Hope this helps. If you need any more info feel free to contact me. It would be great to know someone else in the immediate area. What school are you looking at? 2.2 is not bad, especially right now with the economy the way it is. Remember too that you can negotiate on your contract if you want something reasonably higher. Also remember to make sure your contract states what day of the month you get paid on, what kind of housing you will be provided, and vacation days you will receive. Hope all of this helps. Good luck! |
