Last Dec I put in my notice that I would be quitting my job at my public elementary school. Technically my last day will be on the 28th of Feb (6 months into my current contract) although my school was kind enough to give me the 16th to the 28th off.

My question is this, when am I expected to leave the country? Do I need to be out of here by the 28th? Or would it be ok for me to leave on Mar 1? My alien registration card is good until Aug 31.

Ask your school when they plan to cancel your visa. If they plan to do it after you leave the country, then you don't need to worry about it.

It seems like they're being pretty good to you, so I doubt they're going to screw you over and cancel it before you leave.

I think you may be able to stay until your ARC expires, unless the school cancels your visa at the end of Feb.

Call immigration and ask them, or go to immigration explain the situation and ask them for an exit order, so you can exit the country after March 1st if necessary.

Your alien card will or should be cancelled. You could just leave the country anytime, I think, but not after 30 days after your last teaching day. It's best to make a trip to immigration to cancel your alien card. There you'll hand in your card and they'll staple an exit order (regular paper size) to your passport. This exit order will give you 30 days more in the country. 30 days after your last teaching day. In your case, I'm not sure whether it's your last teaching day or the last day you'll get paid for as your saying they're giving you the 18th to the 30th off. I think that the 30th can be arranged.

Instead of an alien card, you'll just give them your exit order at the airport.

Are you quitting your job or do you want to leave Korea? If you want to quit your job and find a different employer just ask your school for a letter of release. If you want to leave Korea the school should, but don't have to, give you up to 30 days. If you are leaving take this up with your school immediately. If they cancel your visa without notifying you, you will be expected to pay an overstay fee when you leave. However, if your application at immigration is linked to your cell phone you will receive a text message if your school cancels your visa indicating which date you have to be out of Korea.
