I don't see many used PDP's or LCD's on here for sale, or at least none that are large and relatively new.

With that in mind, I'm assuming if there were some for sale people might buy them. (If you have one to sell, let me know, I'd like one.) Since I'm trying to shop for a new TV, I'm curious what others would pay for a similar TV. I'm not concerned if you hate the brand; it's just an example of a real TV that is decent in price and decent in quality.

So anyways, I'm just curious...

What would you pay for a 1-year old 50-inch X-Canvas PDP TV that was worth 1,200,000 won at the original purchase?

I prefer LCDs myself. I think in the future you'll see mostly LCDs and LEDs. Anyway, I bought a Samsung PAVV 40" (LN40A650A1F/W) in late May last year so it's less than a year old. The picture is beautiful. At the time I spent 1.9 M Won, more than the average price for an LCD of that size because this particular TV is among their higher end models. It is full HD 1080P, 120Hz with a 3ms refresh rate, 70,000:1 contrast. With my Blu-Ray player it looks amazing. I'm leaving the country in early April but returning in the summer so I'm not sure if I want to sell it but if someone offers me a reasonable price I may consider letting it go. It comes from a clean, non-smoking apt. I think the going price for these now is about 1.75 to 1.8 but if I'm wrong, I'm sure the pricing police on this forum willl set me straight. I bought the wall mount rather than the stand. Let me know if you or anyone else out there has any interest.

Francis, if you can bring it to Seoul, I might let you park it at my house for a few months until you get back. We're not going anywhere. I'd stick it in the home office.

I myself have a used 50" LG PDP TV that I paid over 2.3 million for 1 year ago. It's 1080i. Sad to see similar new TV's going for 1.2. I'd honestly like to sell it and get a 1080p projector, but the depreciation on the TV makes me feel too guilty to sell it.

Bassexpander, thanks for the offer but if I keep it I'll probably leave it with a friend.

I also have a 40" Sony Bravia full hd tv that I paid WAY too much for about 16 months ago. my dilemma is this... I am going back to Canada next Tuesday and until now, my plan was to give it to my sister and her husband as sort of a gift...only because when I purchased it on October of 2007, I paid 1,800USD for it. Looking it up now, BRAND NEW, it is less than 1,200 and seeing as mine is over a year old, probably MUCH less. Any suggestions people?

thanks.

JJ.

p.s. time is a HUGE issue because I have a truck taking all of my stuff to Seoul this coming Monday morning.

Hey guys...

While you have all provided excellent stories of your TV purchases and how you lost a lot of money on them, I still was hoping to hear your opinion of what you (as a TV buyer) would want to pay for a used 50-inch PDP TV.

This poll was for people who would BUY a TV. Very Happy

Looking at your current situations, I think that all of you would have benefited from a used TV probably, instead of a new one. Therefore, I think your opinions would be really valid in this poll.

Anyone else that wants to answer the poll is more than welcome.

Depends on how you look at it. I had a large plasma when they were not so popular, and have enjoyed it for a while. I haven't lost anything until I sell it. I'll keep it for about 8 years, I figure.

Used TV's can have all kinds of problems, and you can be SOL on a warranty. Today's Plasmas and LCD's don't fix cheap, and issues with bad ones sometimes take an hour of warming-up before you notice the problem (clouds on LCD panels, for example).

If I'm buying, then 600,000w. Of course I'm going to want the cheapest price, even if it means the seller gets lowballed.

If I'm the one SELLING the TV, then I want to recoup as much of my money as I can.

The ACTUAL price where the TV would actually be sold for is the middle ground between 600,000w and 1,200,000w that the buyer AND seller agree is a fair deal.

Bass,

This is true, however I'm not really going at this from that angle. I'm looking to buy a brand new TV now, and wondering what a random sample of buyers might pay for it 1 year from now.

I agree that someone that that buys something to hold for the long haul doesn't lose much. However, remember you that you said you might have gotten rid of it had it not been for the massive depreciation.

As for me, I'm 100% planning to lose money. I will buy a TV now and then lose money on it next year. Fixing and repairs are non-existent basically since I will only be holding it for the first year. I'll probably still be selling it under warranty. Smile

Anyways, I agree with your comments, but I think that I'm looking at the situation from a different perspective, since I'm planning to lose money and just want to know how much I'll be losing.

I hope others can post their comments, because I would like to know what to expect this can be sold at it one year's time.

Cheers

KA,

It is hard to say what someone will pay for a used tv especially on this site. You are going to get a ton of low ballers. I would hope that you could at least recoup half of what you paid maybe a little bit more. The other thing you have to look at is how much the tv's will be going for next year. In 2007 the 40in plasmas were going for almost 2 mil now they are around 1.2 mil or less, so you would not be able to get half of what you paid for a tv bought then. If your worried about losing to much money then don't do it. But it sounds like your wanting to buy one and know your going to take a loss, then buy it be happy for a year and deal with the loss then. But that is only my opinion. (or you could try and buy that 40in Sony on the other post)

Jake
