Not the experience I had for my child's birth.

My son was born 2 years ago at Chungbuk University hospital by C-section and he and my wife received the best care possible from the staff and the US-educated, English-speaking OBGYN.

Gotta agree with Mr. Shankly...very nice experience here in Seoul.

I felt it was best to send my wife home to have our son. Especially when the OBGYN told us that she couldn't tell how far pregnant my wife was cause foreigners have different gestation periods than Koreans.

I think that it really depends on where you are....and what hospital you go to. I mean, just because no one else had such an experience, doesn't go any way to dimish that this guy and his wife had an horrendous one. Once is enough, in my book.

OP, I hope your wife and baby are ok (and you). That's a terrible start to have to have to your new family.

After 2 experiences with MAJOR hospitals here, I would rather take my chances with a witch doctor.

1. Coworker fractured his neck in 4 places. Doctor repositions him on his bed by puling him up BY THE HEAD!!!

2. Exgirlfriend works as an ICU nurse. One patient went into respiratory alarm.
She repeatedly called the on-staff doctor, whom had decided to go home without telling anyone. He wouldn't answer his phone so she called 2 other doctors. They both 'had appointments'.
Her patient died.
The doctor was never sued or reprimanded.

Never, never, never rely on Korean medical care.

I'm not comfortable with the care my wife and I have been told about. C-sections are the majority of births and we feel this only should be done in extreme circumstances not to save my wife's body from stretching. Also the immediate removal of child from parents is not my preference and the lack of me the father being present is not my preference either.

Lastly my wife was told not to bathe for 3 days after the birth.....Ummmm.....that's nasty.

However, I do not like the rather sterile, clinical way they do it at home in Canada either but I prefer it over the care here.

that's the nice thing about near fatal injuries. You know the result of no care so you can't really complain.
