|
|
So I need to go on a visa run next week and I was wondering if Kyoto had a consulate or if I'd have to go to Osaka if I wanted to visit Kyoto at all. If Osaka is the closest one, I think I'd just stick with Fukuoka.
Oh, and a question for anyone who's done this recently: is it still a one-business day thing? When I was in Japan a couple years ago, it was overnight and then I was done. But I've seen on some of the visa run threads that it might take longer.
And yes, I tried to find this info myself (both Google and the search here) and had no luck. I'm sure someone will drop multiple links on me pointing to sites with all the info and I will look stupid as a result. I fully understand this. |

I did one in Fukuoka about one year ago, just after the new regs went into place, it was still an overnight deal. I don't have any more recent information than that. |

I went to Fukuoka for a visa run once, but that was too long ago, so all my information is outdated.
However, there is one thing you should do, whichever place you decide to go to, make sure they are opened when you go there. Since you're going to a Korean embassy/consulate in Japan, both Korean and Japanese national holidays will be observed. I had to stay two nights in Fukuoka because of that and thank God I could withdraw money using my credit card. |

osaka is a blast and kyoto is full of cultural things to do. having also been to fukuoka, i can tell you that osaka/kyoto are destinations that i have far more desire to visit again. nothing wrong with fukuoka, just not nearly as much to do and see. |

Osaka is central to Nara, Kyoto, Kobe, etc. More to see, better nightlife and WAY better food. Osaka is known as the kitchen of Japan in Japanese. |

Personally I love Fukuoka, but haven't been to the other places. For a couple of days it's ideal if not horrifically expensive. |

Kyoto does not have a consulate, but Osaka does.
Fukuoka is closer for you. You could take a boat or a train. |

Same here. I thought Fukuoka was a great city, but more in the "raise a family" way than a "visit and hang out for a couple days" way. I've decided to just go on the Osaka run, as I've never done it before. |

Osaka is the kitchen of Japan but you get better seafood in Fukuoka. Fukuoka is just a fantastic city without all the overwhelming hustle and bustle of an Osaka or Tokyo. Fukuoka is a snap to navigate and friendlier. I have spent time in Osaka and Kyoto, but Fukuoka has them beat in my book. I may be biased as I lived in Fukuoka for 7 years... |

I've done visa runs to both Osaka and Fukuoka in the last six months. It depends what you want to get out of it I guess. For me Fukuoka was better in every possible way. Cheaper to get to, cheaper and easier to get around, way more English ability in the general population, and I actually met other English speakers to hang out and do stuff with. I didn't do much eating in either city, but what I had in Fukuoka was better. |
