When you get your visa, do you receive an register ID number you can use like the resident register number of koreans?

Yes....and No. Yes you get an ID number like Koreans have. BUT you can't always use it. Some websites won't acknowledge it as the ID part starts with a different number than Koreans.

Slight clarification.... you get a national ID number when you get your 'alien registration card' which you must get within 90 days of coming to Korea on your E-2 visa.

Certain things still require your passport number, anyways, and it's really, really annoying when your ID number doesn't work on a website because it starts with the wrong number.
