I'm shopping around for a new job right now and I was sent an offer today that I wasn't happy with: a job in Deagu working from Monday-Saturday for 2.2. I sent a reply back stating that I would not work on Saturdays and I won't accept anything below 2.4.

Turth is: it's a sh!ty offer, but if this were a couple of years ago I would have said gently that it was a sh!ty offer. Now, I pretty much said. "Hey, that's an awful offer. If you're going to jerk me around like this then I'll find someone else." albeit I said it a little nicer than that.

Maybe I was just a push over before. But has anyone else turn into a harda$$ while living here? If so, can you share a couple of stories and how it worked out for you?

Sounds like you just got ruder.

I was agreeing until the last line. That isn't rude. What's rude is sending down an insulting job offer like that. Confused

An offer is an offer mate.
You have the choice to say no to it.
It sounds like you might have been rude.
I hope that you are going to take some time off between contracts.
If you are like that at the start of the contract, it will only get worse.
Take it from experience.

as long as it isn't worded maliciously, i see nothing wrong with telling a potential employer what you deem acceptable and unacceptable as a job offer. i know i've received garbage offers in the past that have pretty much insulted me. i may have taken the situation a bit too seriously, but some recruiters and hogwons toss some real shit out hoping some sucker is going to bite.

fair enough, ya-ta. i should've written personally instead of seriously. it's easier to assume that i'm just an asshole and should be dressed down, isn't it? i know i've been guilty of doing that once or twice. nonetheless, i don't think it is rude to provide an explanation as to why you're politely declining a position. what do you think, ya-ta boy? you've been here awhile, so i find it hard to believe that everything has been a cakewalk.

Business is business. Be professional and not personal. You shouldn't worry about being impolite--be self-interested.

Granted, I'm bad at this myself, but it's something I work hard to change.

Maybe you should start a gang and then sell illegally downloaded DVD's out of the back of a van on a Friday night.

There's a way of getting your point across without being insulting.

That being said I am guilty of flipping on a recruiter last June. I allowed this company to get to me when I should have just moved on. But at the time, their poor sense of business skills floored me and I couldn't resist. Here's the background:

The company got me my first job. Then disappeared. I figured they'd get in touch with me towards the end of my contract to see if they could get me another job. Nope. That was the first thing that made me shake my head. Guess they don't like money. Still, I figured I'd contact a few recruiters and see what offers I could get. I emailed. No reply. I emailed again, to a different address. This time got a response. Was told the girl that looked after me got a promotion and is no longer working directly with clients (she's soooo good that she didn't transfer her clientele to anyone). To this new person, I explained my situation. Told them that I was IN KOREA, had ALL my documents and what I was looking for. So what did they do? They handed my account over to some guy in Vancouver who contacted me a few days later. And this is a BIG recruiting company. Why would I want to deal with someone NOT in Korea? I already played the time zone game once before. But instead of just politely declining their help, I got into it with them. My mistake.

Korea is a funny place. The trick is not to let yourself get consumed by all the nuttiness.

Cute attempt to argue semantics, except nowhere does he say he got less polite. If you're going to split hairs like a petulant child, expect to get it right back.

You also seem to lack a working knowledge of standard English words like "rude" and "polite." Polite does not equal "suffering anything anyone says/does to you with a smile." That's called "being a doormat."
