Yeah, to all the girls out there:

I've noticed in the last few pictures of me, that my face is very shiny. Possibly this is because of my (Clinique) foundation, which has a lot of moisturizer in it.

I've seen some girls use powder of some sort, and I assume it's to control this shininess. If so, what's it called (in English and also in Korean --- would help when shopping)?

I think any face power would work, I got mine at face shop.

Oh they have these amazing oil absorbing tissues [I think they tea tree oil?]

Clinique is KNOWN to make people's face shiny.

One of the best foundation out there is from Lancome. I am currently using Estee Lauder and that seems pretty good, too.

*Face powder* is called loose powder, you use it at the very end to set your make up in place. Make Up Forever does a great one. I am using Bobbi Brown. They are OK for oil control, but the liquid foundation is a greater determinant of how much shine you will end up getting.

Having said that, you have probably seen girls using a compact of pressed powder. That is the same as loose powder but .. well, pressed for ease of carrying and applying when you are out and about. Don't usebpressed powder when you are at home and can use loose powder because pressed powder doesn't give you the natural finish look that loose powder does. But when you are out, pressed powder is handy for touch ups.

HTH.

OK, well, I was searching for a liquid foundation just before I came to Korea -- my skin is very sensitive (to who knows to what -- I can't wear most sunscreens, even the hypoallergenic ones . . . I can only wear Hawaiian tropic -- the SPF 15 and 30); I was merely using MAC Studio-Fix for the years prior. I doubt I want to try and find another foundation -- my skin's a bit hard to match, but I guess everyone's is.

I'm not very familiar with buying and using make-up . . . my mother helped me find a foundation. Where would I look for Make Up Forever or Bobbi Brown? Are these powders expensive?

Actually, a shiny face looks more youthful than a matte one. Some girls use way too much powder and foundation garbage on their faces. That stuff is totally non-beneficial to your skin.

ok, kind of taking a risk here, but...

im a guy. and i have long used some (little) cosmetics to get the look i want. for some reason, i wasnt blessed with good skin, so i have to make an effort. i had the same problem u did. especially my forehead would look like a bowling ball it was so shiny. this was mainly due to the hair spray. i have to use spray and not wax, because my hair is naturally soft and thin wax does nothing for it.

so after i spray, i make sure to wipe down my face with a baby wipe or moist tissue to get the excess spray off. then i use a macca root face protector. i get this at bodyshop. maybe they have a female equivalent. its to help balance the oil and reduce shine in the T zone.

then apply a light covering all over with concealer. a powder is too heavy for male skin, and if u want a more natural look try concealer. this evens out the dark circles under my eyes, the irritated red spots from shaving, and the pale spots from natural shadows.

and then heres a little thing i found out. after i finish with my concealer, i smack my face all over. this brings blood to the surface and warms the face. that allows the pores to open and allow the concealer to sink it. not looking matted or caked on. after my face cools, i dab with those tissues u can get at any face shop for still oily areas.

so there ya go. it has worked for me for years now. no one can tell i use anything and there has never been anything said like "dude, do u wear makeup?" i guess because i use such a thin layer. but my face always looks on point.

and if u were wondering, no, im not gay. i do like to think of myself as fairly metrosexual though, and i believe a lot more guys use some kind of cover up or concealer on pimples and stuff than will admit. im confident im not alone in the respect.

I'm also a dude that has been "blessed" with a rather oily and reddish complexion, expecially if it's hot or I'm stressed.I guess it's the Irish blood.

After years of people asking me why my face is reddish or the "have you been drinking?" question,my European wife suggested I try some of her pressed powder face matte. It's the L'Oreal stuff.

I use it every morning and it really evens out my complexion and completely takes away the oiliness and redness.Only my wife(and you guys) know I use it.

I was a little turned off with the idea of using face poweder originally, but it has improved my appearance and confidence ten fold.No more redness and an even complexion.

I'm not gay or metrosexual, but a guy's gotta take care of his skin! Cool

you could try ordering online from sephora - there are a few great "matte-makers" that work really well. try the one by laura geller (under shine-control for the face); it's an invisible powder that goes on over your regular make-up, and doesn't leave any residue.

Yeah! Haha! Laughing You'd be suprised how many dudes actually use make-up.They have lines of make-up out for men now.L'Oreal has a line of men's make-up with Pierce Brosnan being the main spokesman in the commercials.

I'm not gonna get into the lipstick or eyeliner stuff, but a little facial moisturizer and powder goes a long way!

Back in the 18th century, men wore more make-up than the ladies. They all looked liked powder princesses with their wigs, high heels, corsets and lead face powders! Laughing Cool

Very true! It's funny how fashions come back and often affect the opposite gender.
