| An enjoyable reminder of how gullible/utterly stupid too much of the human race still is. |

I've seen it. A few good laughs, but he's no Michael Moore.
He claims to be a catholic throughout the movie (his father is catholic, mother a jew), but he seems quite jewish in his sympathies. |

I'm pretty sure he claims to be an Atheist throughout the movie. That was kind of the whole point of the movie in the first place . |

Silly quote from mole's Mum:
"Wasn't he a comedian before he went into journalism?" |

He explicitly states that he's not an atheist because to him that's just the other extreme of the religious spectrum.
He's about doubting ie: the talking snake stories etc. |

He repeats himself over and over again.....and I have the same feelings/beliefs he does:
"I just don't know."
He's wondering how people can believe such proposterous stories. |

I think there's some confusion on this thread about what Atheism is. There's a big difference between Positive Atheism and Negative Atheism.
Positive Atheism is the belief that there's no god.
Negative Atheism (which is what the majority of Atheists are) is no belief in god. That is, an absence of a belief. The Negative Atheist says, "I don't know."
Bill Maher is a Negative Atheist. |

| I once saw Bill Maher in a USA Up All Night movie called, "Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death." It was intentionally campy. Good for about two laughs-in other words, his funniest work to date. |

im always amused by the churchies who pray for other churchies to surive some horrible illness, or give thanks to god for sparing so and so's life
ummmm what are you so afraid of? arent you and your friends going to heaven?
i dont say this to make fun. the members of my mom's church (many of whom ive known for the better part of three decades) are some of the dearest, kindest, most decent ppl i know. i just believe there is a flaw in their thinking |

The movie was alright, but it would have been better without Bill Maher. He's pretty much an Atheist despite his repeated statements to the contrary. He just doesn't understand what an Atheist actually is.
While I agree with most of Maher's stances on government and religion, he just comes off as a douche when he's talking about his stances. I much prefer John Stewart and Stephen Colbert. I'm also not big on PETA, but that's another topic entirely.
The movie was much better than any Michael Moore movie, though. Michael Moore is a hack. |

I stand corrected. From what I gather, he never does say he's an Atheist explicitly. I had stated the contrary that he does say he's an Atheist.
Yet, he still is an Atheist, because he lacks any religion. One doesn't have to claim to be an Atheist to be an Atheist, unlike religions in which one has to claim to be a Catholic to be a Catholic. Atheism isn't a religion, it's the absence of it. |
