I have some miles with Air Canada which is tied to star alliance. When I want to use the miles am I locked in to using that airline? Is there a way around this? I'd much rather use them on a cheaper airline or have a choice of airlines.
Anyone know?
Thanks,

I think you can use them on any Star Alliance carrier.
Visit www.aeroplan.com

I am not with Star Alliance but am pretty sure that my experiences with One World will be similar, if not the same as their programme. I have access to all their partner airlines and although I am a Qantas FF I have just booked a flight to Bangkok using miles and flying Cathay Pacific. I originally wanted to fly into Hanoi but Cathay Pacific code shares with another airline who does not belong to One World. Thats the only trouble I have ever had redeeming points. Plus if you go to the SA web page then it should give u all the info u need. Hope that helps |

You can use them on any airline, but you cannot combine miles from different airlines, so accumulate all your miles into one account. |
