Lets just say this is a sleazy tactic

A friend and I just returned to Korea on E-2 visas. Followed the rules by remaining at home for applying the new visa, and both of us (myself NY, him Chicago) were denied multiple-entry visas.

What The Funk?

I'd like to know, if there is a surcharge for changing it here, there should be a reason why we cannot have it done at our home consulate. Mentioned on this board before of my disappointment from this situation but I thought it was only the NY consul applying this guideline. I know for a fact Fukuoka doesn't do this, they instead give everyone multiple entry visas. Or has this changed? Is there any legal stance we can take?

Basically it is a money thing. When you return to Korea simply go to your local immigration office and have them upgrade it to a multiple entry. It will cost you and extra 60,000 won if I am not mistaken, but they will stamp right in the office when you go there. Tough, but the foreign consulates play the game just like everywhere. Not sure why they do it, since the cost is just about 30,000 won difference the first time, but I ran into similar circumstances once upon a time when I had my F2-1 visa here in Korea of all places. They are not going to issue it if you don't ask and even when you do ask it depends on the person you speak with, both in and out of Korea. Good luck.

I haven't tried this, but I thought you could also upgrade your visa at the airport. Sounds risky, cause you don't know if they will say no, but if they do it then you will save having to go to immirgration.

There are no stndards when it comes to the office of immigration in Korea...

not a big deal here folks, if you dont get one when you get here just apply for one when you apply for your arc yeah its 60,000 won which at todays exchange rate is like $5

maybe your school forgot to apply for a mulitple entry when they applied for your visa issuance #, maybe the consulate messed up it happens. dont go into a panic blaming immig. i've had the houston consulate issue both multiple entry and single entry e2s. as someone said there is no rhyme or reason for it.

i got my visa issued back in Australia and they gave me a single entry to begin with, i went back and paid a bit more and got it changed to a multi entry..... not much hassle....

Canadians have always got single entry visas. Maybe they're just putting Americans under the same rule. It really wasn't fair that Americans would get a multiple re-entry visa and Canadians wouldn't.

You can apply for a multiple re-entry permit at the same time you apply for your Alien Registration Card. It will save you a trip back to the immigration office later. I think the cost is either 50,000 Won or 60,000 Won..I can't remember which.

You can apply for a re-entry permit at the immigration office at Incheon Airport, but they will only issue a single re-entry permit. I think it costs 30,000 Won. If you are planning on leaving the country more than once during your one year contract then it is better to get the multiple re-entry permit from your local immigration office.

I was always given a multiple entry..both by the USA and when in Japan when I got my visas.
