Hi all
I've just arrived into Gwangmyung City and would really like to meet up with anyone else who is in the neighbourhood?...
Plus, I thought that there would be some sort of big 'get-together' for new Eng teacher arrivals through GEPIK. Was i expecting too much?
If anyone is organising something social themselves, then i'm great at tagging along!!!

There is a big meet up this thursday near SNU - it might be a bit late for you to be put on the list but in a few months there will be a big orientation where you will meet tons of other newbies - I made a few good mates here through this. |

Howdy,
There's a meeting for all Gepik teachers on Thursday, Feb 26th, at the National Museum. It's not a meeting as much as a Cultural Education for Make Benefit Glorious Teachers of Korea kind of thing. We'll just stroll the museum, from what I've heard - but I'm sure you'll be able to meet people there.
It starts at 2. Get of at Yongsan station at line 1. Exit the station and the shopping area. Go down the long mass of steps. Catch a taxi from there to the Museum - which is fairly close by.
Otherwise, there's supposed to be an orientation in April, I think, in which you'll meet swarms of Gepik teachers.

| While you are at the Museum make sure you go to the gift shop. There's some nice things in there. |

My co-teacher usually tells me about them. The school gets mailed a letter, she'll tell me about it, and book the time off for me. She's great.
Also, I'm a Gepik rep for Bucheon, so that makes me privy to more info. Though, they don't tell me that much. I pretty much said all that I know in this thread. Ha. |

Thanks for those replies, i'll see if i can get this Thursday afternoon off. I was planning to visit the national museum this weekend anyway, so now I can do two things in one go!
This will be a really obvious question, but what is the name of the place in Seoul that is apparently a foreigner's 'safe haven' that's full of all things familiar? I really need an adaptor plug for my laptop etc....and a vodka to go. I also read something about a converter. Is that so i can type in Korean as well as English?

| I'm teaching after schools classes in Yongin. My recruiter is with Tenet Korea (which I think is for EPIK). Do they have any of these meetings/events? |

Itaewon is the foreigner friendly zone.
There is an electronics shop in "downtown" gwangmyeong city (next to the subway station: Chulseon). Kind of a whole in the wall, but i brought my laptop power supply in there and the lady knew exactly what i needed. Cost about 3,000 won. You shouldn't need a voltage converter for your laptop, but if you brought an electric toothbrush, razor, hair straightener or something to that effect you will need a converter (it's used to convert voltage).
