That was a great line!
Of all the people Maher questioned, that dude was the only one I really felt sorry for. Just a simple minded guy not ready to be bombarded by such questions.
I'm agnostic....and I believe Maher is too. Maher "doesn't know." He never says he doesn't believe in a god or something like a god. He just doesn't know, like myself. |

| I believe that the promotion of atheism by Jewish comedians and contemporary academics is a covert plot to advance Zionist Judaism. |

I stand corrected. From what I gather, he never does say he's an Atheist explicitly. I had stated the contrary that he does say he's an Atheist.
Yet, he still is an Atheist, because he lacks any religion. One doesn't have to claim to be an Atheist to be an Atheist, unlike religions in which one has to claim to be a Catholic to be a Catholic. Atheism isn't a religion, it's the absence of it. |
atheism
1. the doctrine or belief that there is no God.
2. disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.
agnosticism
1. a religious orientation of doubt; a denial of ultimate knowledge of the existence of God; "agnosticism holds that you can neither prove nor disprove God's existence"
2. disbelief in any claims of ultimate knowledge |

I thought it was enjoyable. Although he didn't say anything new or groundbreaking about faith, he did have enough presence and wit to make it interesting.
I had never heard of Bill Maher before this, so I can't compare it to his previous work but he did make me laugh a few times during the movie. |

Why? What has he ever done in the past to make you think he'd do a good job out of this? |

I've never really seen anything he's done before.
I did like the movie, not for humor, but to have my point of view expressed to religious people and to see how they answered/reacted. |

No, he's not an atheist. Bill Maher:
| Quote: |
| "I think there is. We did a show last night about God and religion with Dave Foley, who I love, and we were arguing against this one woman who had a book called I Like Being Catholic. Someone said, "Oh, boy, a lot of atheists on this panel." I said, "I'm not an atheist. There's a really big difference between an atheist and someone who just doesn't believe in religion. Religion to me is a bureaucracy between man and God that I don't need. But I'm not an atheist, no." I believe there's some force. If you want to call it God... I don't believe God is a single parent who writes books. I think that the people who think God wrote a book called The Bible are just childish. Religion is so childish. What they're fighting about in the Middle East, it's so childish. These myths, these silly little stories that they believe in fundamentally, that they take over this little space in Jerusalem where one guy flew up to heavenno, no, this guy performed a sacrifice here a thousand million years ago. It's like, "Who cares? What does that have to do with spirituality, where you're really trying to get, as a human being and as a soul moving in the universe?" But I do believe in a God, yes." |

I was a little let down. I thought it'd be funnier, or have some kind of insight. All he really does throughout the movie is ask the question, How can you believe in such absurd stories, over and over again.
Granted, that is a perplexing question. Yet I'd hoped for something more than mere mocking.
Still, it's worth a look. |

Some funny parts-
"Where's my wallet?"
"You didn't have a hard-on, did you?"
"Look. I found another joint."
I thought he was convincing seeing how all the interviews were pro-religion. Bill really didn't have any support, nor did he need it. I thought the Disneyworld Jesus did give him a beatdown, though. The constant theme in the movie that I kept hearing was at the bible. They never said, "that's what I read." It's more like pure belief, as in "that's what happened." |
