Here are, respectively, the post from the Marmot's Hole blog and the original article from the LA Times:

When the number of Koreans began multiplying in Little Tokyo Towers a few years ago, complaints about them from Japanese residents quickly began to surface, the Los Angeles social worker said.
"They smell of garlic." "They don't follow the rules." "They're going to take over." Then, from the Koreans: "The Japanese are snooty." "They don't greet you in the elevator." "They disdain Korean culture." "They're trying to push us out."
< ... >
Today, however, about one-third of the units are occupied by residents of Korean heritage, according to a Little Tokyo Service Center survey. Kim said more Koreans are moving to Little Tokyo because senior facilities in Koreatown are overcrowded, and despite historical tensions with Japanese, Koreans feel more comfortable in an Asian environment than a white or Latino one.
< ... >
At monthly meetings with the facilities' leadership, the subject of the Korean influx would come up repeatedly, according to Evelyn Yoshimura of the service center.
"It was very ugly," Yoshimura said. "People would tell us we have to take a stand against Koreans and do something or they would take over."
< ... >
The tensions have not entirely disappeared, and bilateral politics can easily cause tempers to flare anew. After Japan made what South Korea viewed as provocative statements last summer over disputed islets known as Takeshima or Tokdo, for instance, one Korean musician scheduled to perform at the harmony concert angrily pulled out.

My grandmother is in a Japanese care home in LA. Ever since her Alzheimers set in she's actually reverted to speaking more Japanese than Korean anyway and we all really appreciate the level of care.
It's no surprise that Korean senior centers suck. I mean, they are really bad. We Koreans just don't seem to do details well and senior centers are all about details.
That said, Koreans have been getting along just swimmingly with the Japanese in LA for a long time. Most early Korean immigrants ended up living in Japanese neighborhoods during the 50's, 60's and 70's, attending Japanese churches, shopping at Japanese stores, etc. In fact, a lot of the early American immigrants did not approve of the Korean government and, while not openly saying so, appreciated at least to some extent the way the Japanese had governed Korea during it's occupancy.
Edit:
The Little Tokyo neighborhood in LA has been in decline for a long time now. About a few years ago it had probably hit it's worth before the neighborhood began to gentrify. I think the 'Japanese' have bigger things to worry about than a Korean invasion like a swarm of hipsters moving in. |

Hahaha. I guess those decades of virtual enslavement and brutal occupation pale in comparison to the thought of living with white/brown skinned people... |
