What the hell is wrong with the US and gun laws?

There needs to be a change.

Agreed!

Its amazing how people can ignore all the dangers of private gun ownership. Only an absolute fool would advocate the benefits of owning a gun.

But then again.... it is america we are talking about.... a country of adolescent know-it-alls, who live their lives for instant gratification.

Yes. We should ban guns. Worked for heroin, it should work for guns, too. Rolling Eyes

Well, it does work in some countries, like Korea for instance. On the flip side Canada has stricter ownership laws than the US, yet Vancouver has had a dozen shootings in the last month.

#1. Buy a gun lock.

#2. Use gun lock.

Real easy to blame the guns in those death. By all means, do not put any blame on the parents who failed to "childproof" the most dangerous tool in their house.

"Hey honey, don't forget to childproof that door. We don't want little Bobby falling down the steps. What's that honey? Childproof the guns?? Thats alright. An accident like that will never happen."

Exactly. There are cheap, easy and effective ways to store a gun so these things don't happen.

Many nations have high rates of firearm ownership without high rates of gun related violence. There is more to this than the platitudes of "ban guns" suggest.

I wish there weren't any guns in America, but it's too late now. The genie is already out of the bottle and isn't going back inside.

There are a lot of breakins around here, with all of the meth users and bad economy. Just a couple of weeks ago, some asshole(s) broke into my house and stole an antique crocheted tablecloth and centerpiece straight off my dining room table.

If some thug or pillhead breaks in while I'm home, I'm protected by my big black bodyguard. He looks like this, except with a laser mounted onto the bottom. http://www.ryanmercer.com/images/mossberg500a.jpg

Yeah, your country only killed about 10 or 20 million under Stalin. What do Americans know, comrade dipstick!?!

A tablecloth? Wow. How much meth can you get for a tablecloth? Meth must be cheap.

A wild guess... You're in the Pacific North West?

Us crime rate is droping!

US murder rate is nearly half what it was in 1980.

In 1980 there where over 10 murders per 100,000 and now 5.6 as 2007.

Nothing needs to be changed when you have a country with more than 300 million people there are going to be some crazies.
I know that from what you read in the media you would think that things are getting worse, they are not.

I don't know how much meth costs, but judging by the looks of the known pillheads, it must be fairly inexpensive. I'm guessing they probably got $20 or maybe $30 out of selling both items. It would probably cost me $100 to $200 to replace them, but I'll just have to leave the table bare since these people will steal anything.

One of the meth users in the neighborhood used to be a tobacco farmhand for my father in the 90s. He was caught on videotape stealing hand tools from another guy I know pretty well. He said that he didn't press charges, but I was surprised the guy who stole the stuff wasn't already in jail since he had been convicted of stealing railroad rails and spikes a year or two ago. I thought the railroad companies would have elite lawyers and that he would get locked up a long time for that, but apparently not. A bunch of other guys got arrested for the exact same thing right before base metal prices plunged. I'm surprised trains hadn't derailed over that shit. People were even stealing manhole covers and pig iron didn't even sell for a lot when base metals were at their peak. The theft of A/C parts and gutters was epidemic. Pharmacists and medical professionals here have been getting arrested for dealing pills like Oxycontin and Percodan. Another guy was arrested for breaking into three pharmacies on the same night. Now, one of the pharmacies has burglar bars on its windows and door. The local newpaper just about always has pictures and articles about dealers and meth lab operators getting arrested.

I live in a rural part of Tennessee where crime almost didn't even exist just fifteen or twenty years ago.

Well that sure doesn't sound good. Did you see the Frontline doc about meth?
