Good question.
This has the potential to get very, very interesting. She is the poster child for Korean assimilation, and there's no reason to assume that she can't provide for those kids. A model citizen who has praised and emulated Korean society for half her life, right down to making goofy faces on Korean variety shows. If she can't get her kids, then well, I fear for her. For those who have been hotly debating these issues (Korean judicial system, child custody) lately, here's your litmus test. |

I thought she got married through Unification Chruch (Moonies) mass wedding. I thought they don't allow divorces. |

You can now read all about it in English.

Edit: For those who are wondering about custody of the children ...
Quote: |
Daussy said she wants custody of the children as she has been raising them well. |
Quote: |
The naturalized Korean shed tears when she talked about her children. ``I will raise my children like before. The younger one is only six years old now,'' she said.
< ... >
``I have lived in Korea for half of my life. Korea is my home. I will keep trying my best in my work,'' Daussy said.
Her husband Seo, 47, is fighting the divorce, saying they are living together now and their relationship will get better if they take time. |

I love now how they refer to her as a French woman.
She is a Korean citizen and has been for some time.
(As usual a person is Korean when it's beneficial to Korea and not Korean when it isn't beneficial.)
And you gotta love the fact that some media cited cultural differences as the reason for the divorce. Once again, us versus them attitude. |

Ditto the idiotic comments about she being French all of a sudden.
About the children: In the US divorces favor women, especially regarding custody of children, while in Korea they favor men. Taken to one extreme or the other, as it usually is, it's bad. But let's not assume they automatically should go to her. That's what basically happens in the US and it's a bad system for fathers and a bad system for families. |

Both articles note she is a Korean citizen. One calls her a French TV personality and the other calls her French-born. I don't know what the big deal is. |

The title says "Popular French TV Personality Ends Marriage" as does the first sentence in the Chosunilbo article.

Notice that the Korean guy doesn't want a divorce. This will be interesting. I wonder if the courts will give the kids to him because she's the one who wants to leave the marriage -- or at least use that excuse. |

One did, one didn't.

But even then, it looks like the translator at the Chosun Ilbo messed up. Look at the original Korean articles.

This would translate into "television personality Ida Daussy."
This is very sobering news. This woman:
- speaks Korean very fluently, more so than any of the women on the Misuda/Chatting With Beauties television show.
- gave up her French citizenship to be a Korean citizen.
- decided to stay in Korea permanently and unconditionally.
- has two children.
If she couldn't make it work, after sixteen years, what chance do the rest of us have? |

I dont know about their situation but I'd like to say that I just got a divorce last week and the judge has granted me FULL custody of our daughter. We had a no-contest divorce, though. |

What would you think are the reasons to end a 16 year marriage, I dont think it would be the culture differences or personality issues, it might be simpler than we think, maybe his husband is impotent or he made stupid mistakes which lots of Korean husbands would make after drinking too much soju...
According to her husbands reaction and how she looked on the conference, I might go for the latter. |

wow, you are certainly clever to be able to determine the reason for a couple's divorce based on their appearance...
and the reasons to end a 16 year marriage are the same as the reasons to end a 1 year or 6 year marriage. people fall out of love. people cheat. people realize they're not getting along any more. people fight. people get bored. people change. etc. etc.
moreover it's pretty dumb to think that because one couple made it to 16 years and then divorced, that has any kind of bearing on your current relationship with your spouse, making it less likely for you two to get to that stage.
logic at work... |

My husband says this news is the talk of the town here in Seoul but I just don't find it interesting. I mean people get divorced all the time.
What is interesting is how Korean Ida looks. I wonder what she looked like before the plastic surgery. |
