hard rock band seeks solid rhythm/lead guitarist to fill vacant axe-slinging position.
we're a primarily original act with connections to clubs, promoters, bands and studios in seoul (hongdae, itaewon) and busan. we'd like to continue playing live shows and writing songs. our sound has elements of metal, punk, hardcore, and math rock with a raw, melodic, vocal style. our influences include: every time i die, refused, tool, at the drive in, deftones, black sabbath, nirvana, ministry, blood brothers, fugazi, soundgarden, nine inch nails... you get the idea.
we're looking for a guitarist (or guitarists) with the following:
1. a good attitude - a rock star onstage, a rock fan offstage. must be able to give and accept honest criticism and be a team player with a sense of humor.
2. killer TONE - vintage 60s guitars not required, but a warm clean tone and lots of growly dirt is essential. a good pedal board is preferred to ensure consistent quality sound through different bar rigs.
3. a resume - experience gigging and recording is highly valued. should be able to step into a band and make an impact. MP3s of past or current work required. crappy home demos are ok.
4. work ethic - must be able to learn our songs quickly and accurately by ear. must make an effort to be on time and act professionally when the situation requires.
5. a workable schedule - we usually practice 2 weekday nights per week (7-10), and play shows on the weekends. hagwon hours are probably not workable, unless you are in the immediate hongdae area.
i understand that i'm being rather demanding, but we really would rather spend our time writing songs than waste time auditioning a bunch of people who don't qualify in the first place. if you're interested, please PM me for more information, and be ready to send me some MP3s (and i will do the same).
cheers,

If you insist...
I've got a friend who carves monuments, I might be able to get him to make you a solid rock guitarist.
That was weak.
In truth, I'd love to be your guitarist, but I live two hours out of Seoul, and you sound a bit too serious to be real rockers. |

if your friend's going to carve me a guitarist, maybe solid rock isn't the best idea. foam would be easier to transport. |

Maybe this is just a trick by Axl Rose to get new guitar players, so he resorted to looking on Korea. |

a rock resume = an mp3. sorry, but if you don't have a recording of yourself in this day and age you don't qualify as a musician.
the styrofoam dude idea keeps looking better and better. |

as long as it stays on his side of the stage! is puking a part of his act, or from nerves or heroic alcohol consumption? |

Judgybg from the responses here you should just start some open auditions, during practice. I don't think you'll be wasting time.
Is this open to expats only? |

i'm not sure what cutting heads means. open auditions are possibly the most painful non-literal pain i can think of. one guy we auditioned years ago to sing went on and on and on about how great he was. the only way to get him to shut up was to play a song and give him a microphone.
of course both expats and natives are welcome. |

"cuttin'" heads is when you trade fours (bars) and you throw down your best licks. See movie "Crossroads with Steve Vai. NOT the one with brittany. Then get your ass back in the woodshed, lightning boy. While you're at it, run those arpeggios at 32nd note speed, in the key of F#. |
