For reasons related to post-op care, I can't get my face/neck wet for two weeks. So, I've got a beard. Hooooooooly crap it's itchy. Is it just me and my skin/beard type? Surely not everyone with a beard has to walk around scratching their face like a crazy person. How the hell do you bearded guys deal with it? It's driving me frickin' insane. |

Its normal. Chill out!
The few times in my life I've gone without shaving for more than a week, it became too uncomfortable. My record is 13 days, FYI. I think once your stubble gets to a certain length where it brushes against the skin (6-10 days), the itching starts. |

haha I can't grow a respectable beard to save my life and I go about 3-4 weeks at a time between shaves (because I have no job/am looking to Korea) In my desperation I've never felt the itchiness but just hang in there. Also how sensitive is your skin cause you might be able to trim it back to being under control. |

Maybe it'll help to moisturize? I've never had a beard (I'm female) but I have sensitive skin. It helps to moisturize and when you're showering, gently massage the area (the steam and soap can help with a mild exfoliation) don't rub the hell out of it cause it can farther irritate your skin. Apply a thin layer of lotion immediately after showering/washing your face. |

I'd grown the odd goatee in university. The itching stops after a while. The first few days is the worst. After that I got used to it. |

As others have said, the itching stops. You get used to having hair on your face, then you can't imagine life without it!
I miss my beard... |

I use an electric shaver, which works best if the face is left dry (it says so in the manual). Would that solve your problem of getting your face wet? |

I always wondered what it'd be like to have real facial hair...
I go a week without "shaving" and it just looks like upper lips are a little dirty... |

How many upper lips do you have, then?
Sorry, just being facetious. Shaving sucks sometimes, but I always feel good with a smooth 'boat race'. |

I don't remember the itching. I've had a full beard for 30 years now. I shave it off once a year and never have "itching" problems.
BTW, you can dry shave just its not too comfortable. Key is to go slow. |

I shampoo my beard every day, it never really feels itchy. Shampoo it. |

Hey Chamchiman, hang in there. I've had a beard for half of my life and I can attest that the itchyness [-ocity?] dies down in a few days to a week. It's just your skin getting used to being pulled by the hairs. Once you get used to it you'll toss your razor out like last year's easter eggs. |

It's not all bad. Ask it to take a left and go to 7-11 and pick up a snack. |

After about day forty or fifty, it gets long enough that the ends of the hair aren't poking into your skin anymore. |
