Me, I'd move. You can't win. This woman will make your life miserable, or at best, you'll never quite feel comfortable.

It's funny how some people find themselves in messy altercations whereas others are able to avoid them. Me, I would have apologized right from the get-go. Then apologized some more. And a little more if need be. There's a reason I'm never in fights.

Just how noisy is your dog? Is it one of those small, yappy dogs? I can't stand them and would be cringing myself if you moved in next door to me. I also don't want a baby moving in next door either. But such is life. One of the problems with apartment living. I have to endure the screaming matches from my retarded neightbours. Wish they'd move out.

So yeah, move or have the mob help "diffuse" this situation.

Wink

So basically you're terrorising your neighbours with a dog that won't stop barking? I suppose it never barks when you're not there huh? Rolling Eyes

Put the dog down, or take it into the countryside & set it free. Either way the dog has to go!

I live downstairs from a woman that had a dog.

it would bark a lot, and of course when the people were not home.

I would complain and they would say, but my dog never barks when i am at home......but the frigging thing would bark non-stop when they were not there.

I had to go to management in the end and told them that i wold get the police involved or would demand compensation as it is against the rental agreement if they didn't either get rid of the dog, or keep it quiet somehow.
Dog was gone the next week.

I love dogs...had two in Australia but an apartment in korea is no place for a dog. the barking drives people insane, especially as your house is your sanctuary and a place for peace.

You have no sympathy from me, dogs should be outright BANNED from apartments.

Hi Everyone,

I need some advice. I live in a modern apartment next to the worst possible neighbour in the whole world. It's a long story I will try to sum up.

We have a dog who barks occasionally. He's not that bad. The neighbour next door is sensitive to noise. The first day we moved in, we just knew she was the cranky @#*$ type (we had put boxes there temporarily as we also ordered new furniture and were sorting things) as she told us less than politely to move that stuff.

Anyhow one night about 3 months ago, she knocks on the door and I can hear the anger in her tone, barely being held back. It turns out we aren't supposed to put ordered food plates in the hall (she is our only neighbour in this apartment) and she rudely told us to consider severing our dogs vocal chords. My wife politely told her no and the #@$#@ started swearing and yelling at my wife. Her husband had to drag her back to her apartment and firmly suggested to us to put the food in the staircase.

My wife was upset by this. She washes dishes so that there is no food garbage on the plates we order from. We tried hard to make our dog bark less...

Time goes on, the @#$@ slams her door, swears in Korean at our dog audibly in the hallway several times. My wife is stressed beyond belief...

One day I go to work. As I get on the elevator, the #$#@$ is getting off. As I go down, I hear the #@$# slam the door and my wife doing the same. Just as I step into the office, my phone rings. I pick up and it's my wife. She tells me she got into a fight with the neighbour, that she's bleeding somewhat from her forehead and needs me home.

I tell her to call the police and head home. Sure enough 3 cops are there.

We go to the police station after taking statements. It turns out that the #@$#@ pushed her finger into my wife's forehead repeatedly. My wife pushed her back and the #@$)(*&#@ said "oh, you are pushing me?" and attacked my wife. She has a cut that is still visable to this day on her forehead.

The police officer, after talking to both my wife and the #@$#@ says "someone is lying. One person only wrote what happened to them and not what they did" looking at the #$@#$#. Now she is panicking because my wife is in a position to sue.

My wife declines this only because we hope to move abroad and can't afford a lawyer. The @#$(*&#@ husband comes to the station apologizes several times, even offers us a ride home. The @#$#@ apologizes to my wife and we leave it at that. I take my wife to a clinic to get xrays and some treatment for whiplash...

I figure this is it for the #$#@ because my wife and her talked their points of view out and that she knows she can't screw around as we're willing to go to the police and could have sued.

We've heard nothing from them since. Now here's where the problem starts...

We were supposed to have our monthly bill in the mail but nothing is in our mailbox. We called the security guard and he said they delivered all the bills as normal this month. We've never had a problem with a bill before...

What's worse, my folks sent us a package for my wife's birthday and it's been 4 weeks getting here (usually only takes 2-3 weeks).

I'm in the process of trying to see if that package is still in the mail or if it was delivered. I hope it isn't...but if it was...

I think my neighbour is stealing our mail.

There is a security camera in the hall of the front door where the mail is, but it does NOT point to the mail box as far as I can see.

What can I do? Advice most appreciated!

Thats a serious crime in most countries.

put a dog down for being a dog? i'd rather euthanize a human.

i back the "mailing dog crap" idea. if you seal it well in a plastic lined envelope, then you should be safe. i have heard that it is a major crime to mail someone a noxious substance, but i am pretty sure that is directed at pranksters who have the idea (i have) of their worst enemy opening an envelope of poo.

but if there is no return address, who will they blame? and, what kind of person goes to the police saying "i stole my neighbors' mail, and it had poo in it! please arrest them for receiving poo in the mail!!! i want justice!"

do it in such a way that the envelope is well sealed, but the inner protective coating will surely be breached should the package be tampered with. then neighbor lady will have poo on her hands.

Yes.

I recommend drowning. Can be done at home (in the bath) or in the nearest river, put dog in a sack first and sedate it (don't be cruel, eh?)

Thanks to those who made constructive replies.

My wife does not work so she is home 24-7 literally. When we do go out, we put him in the back room and turn on the radio. We go out together maybe once a week for an hour or two at most. He only barks a little bit and then is quiet. As I mentioned before, he's not bad at all and is generally calm when we're home with him. I could understand our neighbour if he barked like mad 24-7, but he clearly does not do this and he's quieter after the blowup with the #@$# next door.

I think the key is that we've tried to compromise but the #@$(*#@ is just a nutjob. I was not planning on renewing my contract anyhow, so I hope to endure the next semester and then move.

I do not apologize for him barking as in our apartment, not for one second. I can hear babies crying, neighbours below us with kids jumping on their beds or fighting. I know other kids in our apartment chuck their trash in the elevator. It's part of living in an apartment. Our dog is not a significant source of noise nor are we unreasonable.

The #@$#@ asked me one day beforehand, in decent English, if we planned on having children. I said maybe and I could see her stress out even more. I would love to have a few babies here crying late at night just out of spite...

I think someone as sensitive as her should not live in an apartment like this as it does get noisy. When we were at the police station she mentioned that *why do I always have to live next to crazy neighbours* which demonstrates just how crazy SHE and looney she is. In my 5 + years here I've never had any major problems with any of my neighbours nor have they had any major problems with me.

She is kept in line by her husband when he is around. If I ever felt any pity for her, I feel a shred because I wouldn't be surprised if he beat her. He's actually fairly polite and respectful which is really odd...

I am considering a GPS idea of sorts...but the good news is that the CCTV camera DOES capture the mailbox area. It's good for 15 days. I'm trying to track the package number now. If it arrived beforehand and was snatched, I will know when to start looking.

I still laugh because at the police station, one of the policemen started talking to me in English and then just chatted.

If that #$#@ stole my mail and I can prove it, I'll do everything in my power to run her into the ground.

I will keep events posted as they go on...

I have a hard time sympathizing with dog owners who have yappy dogs and the dogs are always worse than the owners care to admit. I just figure buying a dog and refusing to train it resulting in it barking a lot is the height of selfishness.

Either ditch the dog or train it.

Jeez, do people not know about anti-barking collars. They spray an annoying spray into the dog's face when it barks, or some of them give a shock.

But the real issue is not the dog, it's the insane neighbors. I hope they are brought to jail for theft once the CCTV is reviewed.

did you read the part about the noise his neighbors make?

seriously, every time i complained about noise in my building when it happened in my seoul apartment, it fell on deaf ears. not just deaf ears, but sets of ears that clearly screamed from the hilltops "i can't possibly see why you would be complaining!"

koreans, especially city-dwellers, have an uncommon tolerance for noise. scroll back to how many foreigners get scolded on this site by superforeigner douchebags for complaining about the vegetable truck, the gum-cracking ajumma, the drunk firstborn son arguing with his girlfriend outside your window at 2am, the "only hot when she wears makeup" salarywoman clack-clack-clacking down the granite stairs as loud as possible because she missed too many lessons at walking hagwon......

and THEN condemn this guy who has a dog who barks occasionally. seriously. some of the responses in this thread astound me for how little you all know where you are and where you stand.

if it was the other way around, him posting a thread complaining about his neighbor's dog, i seriously doubt if the scales would tip in favor of this ajumma, who is clearly a bit touched upstairs and is abusing "korean culture" to satisfy her own bitterness about the fact that she hasn't had an orgasm since birth.

DPT. dumb people typing. it never ends.

and wow, i edited that 4 times. yuzza yuzza!
