WHY? Why do they not understand that, not only are new books periodically required, but that when they are requested a month in advance, they ought to be there when the kids are finished the old ones? Why do they not get that if they want you to (on the spur of the moment) extend all the classes by five minutes for all foreseeable future, this might put you slightly out? Why do they not get that you get upset when you don't get advance notice EVER? of anything?

No need to respond if you found this boring. I just had to ask the universe for the nth time.

yeah corpral I hear yah! I got given a new class in late november, and the books haven't arrived yet. My middle school class went 6 months without a book, and most of my classes will spend at least a month 'reviewing' the old material while we wait for the book.

That's when your handy dandy box/folder/book of back-up material comes in handy. You know, the one with all the photocopied short stories, question sheets, flashcards, games...

My last school was so chaotic with constant changes, no books, and just general crappiness that I stashed my emergency kit in my room to bust out whenever I had to do a spur of the moment thing.

Then the kiddies don't get pissed at all the review they have to do as well.

maxxx_power,
You must live and work in the high tech city. A working photocopier with an ample supply of paper in this city is as rare as a tenured foreign professor receiving the highest salary in a Korean university.

Oh Corporal, when will it end? The agonies, the trials, the tribulations?

Best to move on to greener pastures, for sure.

(With my Swiss citizenship I'll be moving on to the land of cheese, chocolate and high quality milk. How about you?)

I'm happy for you. With my Korean husband who's put a lot of money into starting a business here I won't be going anywhere anytime soon. Since we also have a child I'm additionally limited as to where, when and how I can pick up extra money. That's okay, but I do reserve the right to bitch about it sometimes, just like the rest of you.

What must be very disheartening about not having the books when needed, is that all the boss has to do in order to get them is phone the book store and order them. they could be delivered the same day.

I hear ya corporal. Those situations are annoying at times.
But hey thats just part of the ball game of teaching.
The photocopes suggestion is a good one so you have extra material if the books are late or the class extended.

As for the extra 5 minutes a class, it can be a pain but its not that big a deal, you just have to roll with it (I doubt this helps you any!).

If you can't have photocopies made, how about having one overhead made (at your own expense, even) and have everyone copy it and complete it? Should kill that five minutes, too!

To literally answer your question, because they're Korean.
