Can a school ban you from leaving the country, and how quickly can they? If my school threatens to ban me, how much time do you have to to get out?

they can't ban you. the only people that would be able to do that are the police/government.

Its a common threat used by many Korean employers against foreigners (especially newbie foreigners)...

example...

If you do/don't do this - I will phone the police and you will be jailed...

If you do/don't do this - I will phone the police and you will be banned from leaving the country - you will be a prisoner here forever...

If you do/don't do this - I will phone immigration and you will never be able to get a visa here again - and nobody will ever employ you again..

If you do/don't do this - I will phone the police and they will put you in prison because you are a criminal..

etc etc etc

Its usually just a FAKE threat - for them to get something from you (that they want/don't want you to do)...

If you DID committ a crime - and your school wants revenge - they have to make a report to the police..

(sadly - often in Korea - schools who want revenge on foreigners just "make up a crime" against the foreigner (complete lies) - but of course as you should all know - the police will believe the Korean employee and you probably will be found "guilty" of the said "false crime"...

anyway - after reporting you to the police - the employer/person then has to take the paperwork from the police to the immigration office - showing that they have officially made the report to the police..

it is then Immigrations decision whether or not to place a travel ban on you..

most times - this is just a threat from your employer - and (just to lay along with your emloyer) you should...

(1) pretend to be scared..
(2) secretly arrange some way out of the problem
(3) never give your employer your passport or ARC card

(If you mistakenly given your employer your passport/ARC card and they hate you - they can take these to immigration to cancel your visa - hence forcing you to leave the country within 14 days..)

Obviously - from your question - your employer hates you for some reason..

maybe your employer owes you money (late salary or a 12-month bonus and doesn't want to pay?)

you have to figure out a "wise" way of fixing the problem (however, most often the employer will let you go - but NOT want to pay you for recent work..

think about what you want and how to get out of the situation safely..

(This is also the BEST time to make use of your Korean friends ((all those Korean friends you made during your time here)) they can help you).. - I hope you did make some Korean friends ??

Once again Korea, you've left a sour taste in my mouth leaving this country. Even though I completed a year, you refuse to give me my severance. Last time I got fired in my 11th month.

Goodbye Korea, and good riddance! I hope you continue to slowly rot from the inside out. You truly are a country that is a steaming pile of runny dog shit splattered all over the baking sidewalk on a hot, steamy July afternoon.

This is all very confusing. Rolling Eyes Wink Confused

They would "usually" deduct a couple hundred as a cleaning fee.

Immigration Officer: Hmmm, sorry you can't come through.
RF: Huh?
Immigration Officer: Did you tidy your room? No? You can't come through.

The "we'll ban you" bullshit line again?

I heard it 10 years ago...and even then it was BS.

Fucking hakwon owners have large egos.

I dunno about Korea, but back home they would need a court order, and have to take it to immigration.

I remember my university law lecturer telling me about how fun it was for him to do this when he was a lawyer Smile

Do a land crossing into North Korea first. Then buy a ticket and fly out of Pyongyang...sorted.

Pack your bags and buy a ticket.

Buy a bunch of soju and beer and put it in the frig.

Call in sick.

Put a note on your door saying you went to the hospital.

Leave the door unlocked.

Put a note on the frig door saying "Help yourself."
