how did that happen?
my visa got turned down. i left my last job after 6 months, but I even fuckin paid them the airfare back so that I wouldn't get blacklisted
how do you get off the blacklist in case i wanna work in korea in the future? |

If Treefarmer left and turned in his ARC at the airport, his visa would have been cancelled.
The school must have filed a report of some sort on you with immigration. You might be able to call them and find out what happened, or ask the employer you are trying to work with why your visa was denied. They should be able to find out some details. I had hired a teacher who was blacklisted, and found out why, and was able to get him off it. It took some money though.
Was it immigration that wouldn't give you the visa, or was it the Korean consulate? |

Not necessarily. A lazy Immi officer will sometimes take an ARC and not bother to cancel the visa - it's just human nature to do as little as possible. Why would the Immi officer care if the foreigner will have problems in future?
Just handing in your ARC does not automatically cancel your visa (it should, but it doesn't). The only way to be sure is to insist the officer does it - i.e. don't leave the 'wicket' until you see it is done on the computer. |

I tried that after my visa was denied, they told me "I regret to inform you that we are not able to work with someone who is declined by the Korean consulate". |

That's why I asked if he were denied from immigration, which means a hagwon put some information on his file, which can be repaired, as I have done it in the past. |

It was a hagwon. i left after 6 months, but like I said I didn't run off, I gave them back the money for the flight over, gave them a month notice etc because I thought that would mean it was ok
I did leave another school after 6 months, so maybe they don't think I'm capable of fulfilling a 1 year visa, but it's still a bit strange
edit: I'm not going to appeal at this stage. I was meant to be away in december, so my first priority is to get a job sorted in china or summat, if I do go back to korea it won't be for a few years.... |

Ah, now the truth comes out. You left two jobs early. Add a negative comment by an ex-employer and your fate is sealed.

thing is, both times i left on fairly good terms, just that circumstances in my life changed and they 'let me go'
i always stayed until they found a replacement, never left them in the lurch. i can understand it being a concern for a future employer, but since i didn't run out, and my leaving was never cos of police trouble or anything, i don't see why it's any of immigration's business (and the first job was 2006 ffs, that was years ago)
i do want to know how long.... |

It could be an automatic thing. You can break a contract one time, no problem, but the second time they blacklist you. You might have been able to get away with it a third time had you completed a year in between. i.e. break, complete, break, complete, break, blacklisted. Of course, it's all speculation. Contact immigration and see if they'll offer up some info. Maybe there's someone on Dave's who has been in your shoes but didn't get blacklisted. Then there's hope. Or he got blacklisted, applied again a few years later and got accepted.
It's too bad because both times you were good enough to give notice and repay your flight. Those hagwons actually came out ahead. No flight or severance to pay.

| Hagwons came out ahead because they grossly inflate the price of the flight to some magical number.. every flight I've ever bought has shown the price on the ticket at least 3 times the amount I actually paid |

Yes, it is. 
You won't get black-listed just by breaking a couple contracts. Something else is going on. |

| Is there really a blacklist at immigration? I am thinking of leaving my hagwon with no notice, I am on my fifth month now. What are the consequences of doing this exactly? Will I put on some blacklist and banned from teaching in Korea again? |
