I just watched this and I feel severely depressed. I did get a little teary when the chubbier guy started to cry at the end. God, I can't even imagine what it's like to live that life. I hope Issei quits and finds a girlfriend to marry!
But...I bet he's making a shitload more money now after the film has been released. I wonder if that made him any happier. |

Great docu, but depressing. I imagine it's even worse for the hostesses. |

There is one aspect that I still cannot comprehend. A lot of the girls who were vistings the hosts were prostitutes themselves.
Just can't figure that one out. |

Having this thread to remind me, I just walked through Kabuki-cho tonight on my way back to my hotel. Ten years ago, where the entire area would have been wall-to-wall advertisements for soaplands and hostess bars, now the opposite seems to be true. I had trouble seeing very much overt advertising for the ladies, but man, the host clubs were EVERYWHERE, easily a couple dozen in the few backalleys I strolled through. Too early in the night for the touts to be out in force though.
Looks like catering to the needs of the neglected housewife is good business. |

They go to do to men what they have done to them is what I've been told. I suppose it's nice to have some guy suck up to you after doing it to lame salary men. |

Everyone's lives seem to be a bit of a wreck, there. I think there were a lot of prostitutes as clients just because they happened to have better spending power than other woman. One of the prostitutes said it herself- a woman with an ordinary job couldn't afford to spend two or three nights a week there like I do.
Wow, buying love. Seems you can put a price on it after all, and it is really expensive. |
