hey guys,

Looking for directions to Suncheon bus station..any landmarks will do, I have to fetch a friend there. I know Suncheon, but not sure exactly where in Suncheon the bus station is. Is there more than one intercity bus station in suncheon? My friend will be coming from incheon airport, but not on a limousine bus. Thanks!

There used to be 2 bus terminals in Suncheon, but I believe there is only one now which makes it easier.

Your best bet is to get in a taxi and say "Bus-uh tuh-mee-nal ga-ju-say-yo". In terms of directions it's not that easy to explain how to get to it. It's kinda west of Primus cinema and slightly NW of city hall I guess. There are a couple of motels nearby but I don't remember the names. Taxi is probably best.

There's only one terminal now. It's a couple blocks down the street from the train station, across the river. If you can read Korean look at it on the map: http://map.naver.com/?x=127.4913052&y=34.947553&title=순천버스터미널

Your best bet is to just take a cab; it'll cost 5,000 from New Core. Also, most buses go to the terminal---59 from New Core, but 71, 77, and just about every other one goes there too---though they're probably done running by now.

Oops, driving? Well, if you know where the train station is, head down the main road that bisects the rotary, and go across the river. Once you go under the underpass the terminal will be on your right, but it's one-way there, so just after you pass the kimbap restaurant and the toast restaurant, before the "Show" cellphone place, make a right down that alley so you can head down the street the proper way. Turn right when you see the Paris Baguette (follow the line of taxis); you can't miss it, and there's a place to let your car idle for a few minutes.

Only one bus station in Suncheon now? Wow. Times change. Everytime I visit it seems like Suncheon is really changing into a city not the small "quasi-city" it used to be.

Have they finished the tunnel under Chukdobong?

ps: lived in Suncheon from October 1998 to December 2004.

Yep, they finished the tunnel. Really cuts travel time for people going to the university.

There was a reservoir near Shidae Apartments, though they're turning that into a large park (and there is an apartment complex going up behind it).

They're building the new Suncheon Station, which will accommodate the KTX, and I think it'll be done at the end of this year.

On the site of the old bus station they're putting up a Cultural Center that looks really neat.

And, they're putting in our first classy hotel, an 18-story one across from Choeun Plaza (which is still empty). For the time being there's an anma on site, though. *cough*

All this development is what must be making my mother-in-law so happy these days. "The Family" found out by accident last month that she has been secretly buying land and buildings in Yeosu, Suncheon and inbetween the two for the last 40 years.

Smart/lucky woman.
