So I recently signed up with EPIK in Busan for my second year here and was placed in a school out in the countryside.
The one-room they rented for me is small, old, and smells like smoke. There's a brand new building a block away with, nice, big ones around the same price so I'm wondering if this building belongs to someone's cousin. I've been in the apt. since Rriday evening; today is Sunday.
I'd like to move back into the city. I can find a nice apartment in Haeundae for a similar price, and there's a commuter train from there to my school that takes only 25 minutes.
My contract says they should consult with me before taking out the apartment to see if I'd rather have a rent stipend instead. I'm thinking that asking for that might be the easiest way to get out of my current one. My co-teacher seems nice, and I'm happy to teach in a small school. Honestly I dont' think EPIK / Busan MOE provided any information about me to them or vice versa. They were expecting a brand new teacher and were relieved to learn I've been here before and enjoy Korean food.
What's the best way to make the change without starting off on the wrong foot? Will they be able to get their keymoney returned for the apartment they took out? Sorry for the long explanation and I appreciate your advice. |
