Is it true that if you use even a single sick day, that your boss only has to pay you a fraction of your severance pay?

I recall reading something of the sort in the past....

Not sure of the legistics of it all but I recently viewed a contract where they only considered a sick day/holiday to count towards 4 hours even though you averaged at least 6 per day...

No, it is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE. Using a sick day would only decrease the number of vacation days you are eligible for in your second year. Severence pay must be the average of the last three month's salary.

I made sure that my contract specifically stated the number of days I was allowed to take as sick days and the circumstances under which they'd be granted (a note from the doctor and calling ASAP because this 24 hour notice in my past contracts was utter nonsense).

As long as I supply a doctor's note I can't be docked any wages. Besides, my employer is much more reasonable than my previous employer when it comes to sick time.

I've been sick too many times to count and have never taken a sick day. I know, I should have used them but they were being abused by a couple of other teachers on a regular basis and I didn't feel like being labelled as unreliable.

Look at your contract and if it's not clearly stated then you are up s*** creek on the sick days.

Cheers.
