I am looking for an external hard drive, preferably small in physical size. Let me know if you've got one you would like to get rid of...

Why don't you get one from G Market? That's where I got mine.

That one is 320gb? It doesn't say it's capacity on the page! Unless it's in hangul.. can't sift through it all.

... and from the picture, it seems clear it's one of those that will take two USBH ports.

That's especially annoying if you are using the HDD with a laptop. I used to plug only the main cable into my laptop, but then for a while the HDD wouldn't work, so it's both from now on.

Although, I got a 500GB Seagate which requires only one USB port (much better that way), but strangely enough, I couldn't find one as cheap as when I bought mine a few months ago on Gmarket. Maybe because the won is losing value so much so quickly; I don't know. Question

I prefer to buy the hard drive and case separately. This way you know for sure what you are getting in the hard drive. Some of the drives with cases are older models, slower models, ones with smaller caches. And some are not the best brands. Often the combos are more expensive than buying separately. But sometimes there appear to be good deals.

I did buy a Seagate 3.5 1 tb drive in a case while in the States, cheap -- much cheaper than a 1 tb drive alone here in Korea. Works fine. But, the case cannot be opened! This would be a problem if you want to swap out external drive with your computer's internal drive.

I stick to Seagate and Hitachi (formerly IBM brand).

can anyone find the brand of the hard drive?

If not, why buy a no-name hard drive just cause you like the case?

Here's a Hitachi 320gb 2.5 for 93k, and a decent case from the same seller for 15k, or 108k plus shipping.

http://global.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=158862240&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T

http://global.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=158872514

Something to keep in mind, though, these Hitachi OEM drives, and possibly others, are completely unformatted, so the computer doesn't recognize it at first. So you have to know how to go into the operating system these days to find the graphic commands to format the drive -- the same commands that will let you partition or repartition. It's easy, once you find it.

Another option is to put the new drive in your laptop, and the old drive in the portable case.

These little drives are mighty handy. Everyone should have one.

Here's a better option than the Hitachi: the Seagate ST9320320AS, 93kw - that's $62, according to gmarket. It's $80 in the States.

http://global.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=158862821&pos_shop_cd=GE&pos_class_cd=300004039&pos_class_kind=S

The Seagate 320gb drive has more actual gigs than the Hitachi -- definitions of gigabytes apparently varies. And it is semi-formatted, so the computer will recognize it when it is plugged in to the USB.

Same seller as previous post.

This is a great option for upgrading your laptop's internal drive, especially if it is two years old or older.

However, I hope you all realize they are now making 500 gb 2.5 inch drives for laptops now. Here's the Seagate model, 158 kw / $105:

http://global.gmarket.co.kr/challenge/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=160180298&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T

You can get this drive online in the States for $95.

Frankly, it's so easy to add an external hard drive that I'm not sure most people need such a large internal drive.
