|
|
So we're leaving for Busan on Wednesday at 10am... but have no idea what to do about currency. We don't start work until Monday, so we'll need some money to get around, buy food, set up the apartment all that jazz before then. What do you guys suggest in terms of bringing money over. Should we buy Won in the states, bring travelers checks, or just bring dollars over and exchange them there. Any advice would be great! :D thanks |

Bring Benjamins. Who knows you might end up getting more than you thought with this elastic exchange rate. |

DO NOT buy won there. Buy it here. By the time you get here, you might also make a few hundred extra thousand... |

I would suggest you bring enough money to last at least 1 month. It is easy to exchange money at the airport once you arrive in Korea. |

Well that's exactly what we'd like to do, but does anyone have a suggestion as to how much that would be? |

$1500-2000 for two people. You might as well bring as much as you can considering you can cash in on the exchange rate plummeting even further. |

I'd say 2k is excessive especially with the current exchange rate. Better to be prepared though. And don't forget about your settling bonus if your with a public school.
Either way, have fun and welcome to the land of the morning calm. |

I say bring $1000 US dollars. That will give you around $1,500,000 - 1,700,000 won. Thats more than enough for two people and one month. |

Any suggestions as to where we should exchange the money once there? Like I said, we'll be in Busan, but we have a layover in Seoul for about an hour. Is the airport going to totally rip us off, or should it be ok to buy the Won there? |

Just cash 100 or 200 at the airport than cash more at your local KEB when needed. |

Well they could bring 2000 dollars, not spend all of it and then profit from the exchange rate. Saves having to wire transfer money later to cash in on the ailing won. |

I'd only change enough for taxi or bus fare at the airport. Then get yourself to a bank as the airport rates suck. |
