I have an offer for 2.2 million won at this school in Gangnam, Seoul. Has anyone heard of this school or work there by any chance? My other question is with 2.2 million won per month, is that a good amount of money to live off in that area of Seoul for a month. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I wanted a job for 2.3 a month with the decreasing won value, but the area Gangnam seems nice and has alot to do so maybe I should accept it. Could i still save some money on 2.2/mil earnings per month in Seoul? My recruiter is John Morgan recruiting services if anyone has heard of them?

I wouldn't accept. They have CCTV in their classrooms, You can find much better positions around Seoul no matter what your recruiter tells you.

Whats CCTV? I appreciate the advice a lot. I have so many recruiters looking for jobs for me, it's hard to find someone trustworthy. I plan on getting schools from them and posting them on here for every offer to see what real advice teachers on here give me about that particular school.

They have camera's in class. So unless you like working for big brother, I'd look elsewhere.

Just make sure you take your time when looking for a new job, get photos of the school and the apartment, as well as getting the email address of the current teacher/s.

It's surprising to see that CDI is offering only 2.2mil. Usually, they offer around 2.5 without any experience.

About the CCTV, I think it's a good idea. Why not? If you do what you are supposed to do, you will get rewarded. Besides, I wouldn't want to deal with my word versus a 10 year old's.

You don't need to live in Kangnam - it's pricey. 2.2M is low if you have prior teaching experience. I wouldn't take anything less than 2.5.

That's kind of a lame name. WTF does "April" have to do with anything?

'April' tells u it is CDI's kiddie hogwon branch.

I interviewed with them before coming here and despite 13 years exp, the last several with kindy kids in Japan, they made me such a ridiculous offer I laughed for ages!

2.2 is good if you're a first year teacher. don't expect more, or you'll limit yourself. Don't worry about the CCTV. If you do your job, like you're supposed to do, nobody will bother you. I had CCTV in my classrooms at my last large hagwon job, and not once got a peep from the student's mothers. but if you're coming to Korea to fuc|< around, get drunk, stumble to work drunk like some of the douchebags here, then find a hagwon with NO CCTV. or stay home and work at mcd's cos you'll make the same amount of money.

i also had the same offer from cdi april and was going to accept it until i read all the negative comments on here. even though most of the comments on daves do seem to be negative, i tried to forget about them but it's difficult to shake them off so now i think i'll turn it down.

in all previous jobs i've had i would have hated cameras on me, but surely with teaching you have to be on the ball at all times more or less so is it really such a problem?

I didn't care about the cameras on me at all my previous jobs, but I HATED them in Korea. Why? Because at my last jobs there wasn't too much disagreement on what "doing a good job" was. Here's what you have to do: do it. It either gets done or it doesn't. If it's done, then obviously I did it and there's no problem. Here it can be very different cause they want it done a certain way, and sometimes that way is completely inane. Teaching the students what they are supposed to know is not good enough, you have to do it just like this and we will be watching. No thanks.

Hi~
I'm going to take the position at CDI April. I've lived in Korea before but taught at a military academy so I think that anything is better than there. I'm going to arrive in April. The location where I'm going to work is in Gangnam and I love this area. There are many things to do. 2.2 mil is not good nor is it terrible. Seoul is expensive but you can also save money since you are living for free. The camera's have put me off a little but I think that it could be good...you can use it to your advantage is what I'm getting at. Are there others here that will come to CDI April in April??
