For all of you who had been wanting to get into kettlebells.
Speedandpower.co.kr is up and running again.
they have 35 pound KBs for 80,000 and
45 poung KBs for 104,000. Sounds expensive?
It is actually a little cheaper than you would pay
in the states. Go figure.
For anyone considering it GO FOR IT. They are amazing.
If you have questions drop me a line. I'd be happy to show
you the basics. |

ok, i gotta ask. whats up with kettlebells? i hit my gym 4 times a week (its about 5min walking distance) i work out hard and am pretty darn fit if i say so myself. but i dont get it. what can u do with kb that u cant with dumbbells? to me they seem just as versatile as db's but less convenient cause i can adjust the weight with a db. once i outgrow a kb, thats it.
so i want to hear this with an open mind. y should a gym rat like myself opt for kb's instead of db's? |

I asked this on a different thread about kettlebells...but didn't get any takers.
I have used both....and having trained for most of my life... I just see this as a new age fad for most lifters...i don't see the science in it...that is compared to dumbbells.
It was like martial arts to western fighters...but after getting a black belt or two...it is easy to see why it is called art...more for show then use.
Don't get me wrong...there is a lot to be said for certain aspects of the arts...just as I am sure there are with kettlebells...I just don't see the justification for the hype....dumbbells and a good work ethic seem like a good combination.
Anyway, I digress.
Does anyone have any specific advantage to warrant the cost of kettlebells? |

I live between big towns and simply don't want to fight traffic for 10k or more more each way to go to the nearest gym. I also like kettlebells because they're a lot more flexible than weights. When the weather's nice, I take my KB's to the school I work at in the morning and work out on the sand.
As for preference of weights to KB's, who cares?!? Some people like to run, some like hike, lift weights, etc... At least they're exercising. I can do a lot more compund movements than regular weights. When I'm exercising, I like to work hard and steady and can't stand Korean gyms where the guys stand around and do 10 reps with 5kg's and take 20 minutes a set to do them. It's annoying!
For the poster above, try going to DragonDoor.com's discussion forum if you want to debate about KB's. Like I said, I see different kinds of exercise like different flavors of ice cream. Some like strawberry, some like vanilla............ |

Thanks for the response.
I did read that DragonDoor.com article you posted on a different thread.
Makes for some good reading...the KB course they offer sounds pretty intense.
As for the comparison issue...I was just interested in some personal insights...I like KB's too...but don't see much if any difference between them and dumbbells.
For the price of KB's, one could buy top of the line dumbbells...so...dollar for dollar...I could see the choice going either way.
I couldn't agree more that the main idea is for people to just find something they enjoy and do it.
Mixing things up...adding a new form of exercise is one way of keeping the motivation flowing.
Good luck with your training...by the way...are you going to take that KB course...or have you?
Would like to get some more info on that...again...sounds pretty intense...which is quite appealing to me. |

I haven't been to one of those workshops, so I plan on going on the 28th. Of the hundreds of posters on Dave's, only a few are interested in KB's. Same for the general population of Korea. The market probably isn't big enough for them to offer the Cert class often, if at all.
I'd love to get RKC certified but it doesn't seem very feasable from Korea. And I can't see flying to CA just to attend one. I'll just have to muddle along as best I can........... |

For me it comes down to muscle confusion. If all you do is the same dumbbell/barbell routine at a certain point you are going to plateau.
They add another element to training that makes it fun/shakes it up a bit. 1st. KB training it one hell of a cardio workout. This coming from a guy who does sledgehammer tire pounds at Tabata intervals, and interval training with jump rope and wind sprints.
2nd. They are an intense physical and MENTAL workout. Why? Because you have to have PERFECT form and must maintain it throughout the entire exercise. And you have to concentrate because you have a 45lb cannonball swinging over your head.
3rd. It isnt as nearly easy as it looks. They give your workouts a new depth and challenge. Perfecting the form and the actual exercises themselves is very tough.
4th. It is all there. Cardio/resistance/And even plyometrics.
Take a look at this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vNHHFeAKu-Yand if you think you still think its easy come over to Bucheon and come train in the park with me. I'll be happy to prove you wrong.

I'll agree with you though. they are mercilessly OVERPRICED. The going rate of 10 cents a pound does occasionally pop up with certain models like apollo and us kettlebells. The red dragon ones are nearly 2 1/2 times more expensive though there is no real difference between them and the two above mentioned brands. |

Any comprehensive/unbiased analysis of kettlebells out there on Lady Internet? It looks intriguing, but this thread kind of sounds like an advert. |
