A proposed law revision would allow the NIS to listen in on mobile telecommunications, the Internet, and all other communications services

It has been revealed that the National Intelligence Service has demanded that when the Communications Secrecy Protection Law (Tong bi beop) is revised it should have a provision allowing the intelligence agency to eavesdrop directly on foreigners instead of having to go through communications companies. In asking for permission to operate its own, separate eavesdropping equipment, it is contradicting the Lee Myung-bak administration and the ruling Grand National Party, which say they want to eliminate the possibility of abuse by changing the way communications eavesdropping is done and using the procedure of going through communications companies, as is done in advanced countries ...

Sounds very reasonable to me. Many foreigners are in 2nd countries for unsavory reasons. The first rule of government is to protect its citizenry.

Do they have anybody there that can understand English spoken at normal conversation speed though? Not to mention all the other languages spoken by the DDD workers? Make for a good comedy skit though..

T.U.M: "So you want to go see the new movie, you know the one with Nicholas Cage in it?"

GF: "Sure. And afterwards, how about going to Anglo's...

NIS agent: "Speak more slowly please, I don't understand."

But I for one welcome the NIS agents to listen in this forum. The never-ending tide of negativity and trivia should drive most of them insane.

Wonder if the whiners will think twice before posting now. Laughing

They should put videocameras in the apartments of all foreigners and put it on the internet for all Koreans to watch. That would be awesome.

I seriously don't think it would be much of a surprise considering many Koreans don't like Korea as well.

So they want to spy on us just because we're *gasp* foreigners. What a load of kimchi. Pure descrimination without cause.

"Protect its citizenry"???? WTF is that supposed to mean.

Waygook: "So did you have fun last night on our date"?

K. Girlfriend: "Yes we should do it again sometime"

NIS Agent: Babo... Must Keep Han Blood Pure!!!" Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Maybe the South Korean government should be searching for North Korean agents and other communist spies before making westerners a target for surveilliance.
