After we finish our contract (which I don't have on hand and my co-teachers are very busy), how long do we have to get out of the country? Ten days?

You must be out of Korea by the time your ARC has expired. If it expires before your contract ends, you must get an extension at immigration.

Crazy. It expires on the day my contract ends. I see a clash of bureaucracies a-comin'!

If you have an outbound ticket dated up 30 days after the expiry of your visa, you can go to immigration and get an extension up to and including the date on your outbound ticket.

Thanks. That answers the immigration side of the problem.

Now, I have to see what my contract demands. I remember reading that I had to be out of dodge within 10 days to get my airfare.

yeah, it probably does say that. the problem with this is that some schools like to say that they don't have to pay your severance until 14 days after your last day of work (i don't know if this is true or not). therefore, you won't be able to do much in terms of collecting if they decide to screw you. i'd suggest doing the refundable air ticket thing and hang around for a couple weeks after your contract ends.

The contract does say that I have 10 days.

In my case, I'll be coming back in the summer. So I'll not have to worry about the problem in quite the same way as someone who's not to come back at all.
