I had one named 빛나.

Bich-na. Bitch me. I'm a bitch.

I know it's not funny and I know you don't pronounce it like "bich", but when it's 10:00 on a Tuesday night and you're teaching your 6th class, anything can be funny.

I've had countless Minjis, and it still feels odd when I say it and everyone else in the class thinks it sounds perfectly normal.

It does make for a fun lesson on name abreviations: I'm Stephen but you can call me Steve. She's Minji but you can call her...

Minge is British slang for vagina. Minges would be plural.

I've got a 빛나 too. I like it. It's a genuine Korean name rather than a Chinese one. It means "shining".

I remember my first year in Korea. I could hear the teacher in the next room yelling: "Min Joo, you suck!"

I had a good laugh, and then I had a bigger laugh when I found out she was yelling at two different children: Min Joo and Yoo Suk.
