Have you noticed that some of the Koreans with the same family name look somewhat similar?

I've noticed that many people with the name Kim have generally very dark hair and similar facial/jaw features. I wonder if this is due to some kind of genetic dominance, or just the fact that there are a lot more Kims? This, of course, can vary a lot (people have intermarried over the years obviously). There are several sub-names (areas) that people from certain families come from in Korea. People with the name Kwon seem to often have quite a different look than those with Kim or Park.

What are the different sub-names?

I know, for example, that there are Andong Kims, Miyang Parks, etc..

Interesting observations Bass! Not quite sure about the other sub-names.

Yeah, from what I know of it, not all of the Kims are related directly through blood. The name originated in a few different places. This is how it was explained to me. Thus, a Kim can marry a Kim so long as they are from a different 'tribe(?)'.

I haven't noticed particular similarities though. I'll look for 'em now though.

Many Kim female family members have thick jet-black hair (blacker than most) with a developed western-style jaw line, and often larger almond eyes set further apart. Maybe those are a trait of a certain tribe which yields itself more often than not?

Park family members have a less prominent jaw, in many cases, and a somewhat less boxy build.

Some family names/tribes (probably partly due to area and upbringing) have darker skin than others, too.

It's interesting.

(as for the podcasts... RT's podcast is coming... just buried in work now that classes have started this week).

Women who have last name " Shin " look much prettier than general korean population, they also have lighter skin than general population.
A lots of beauties from Shin families and I am belong to that last name Wink The first Shin was the highest ranking general at kingdom of Koryeo ( This is the kingdom that once have united 3 kingdoms ) and he was assassinated by enemy.
Do you want to know more about history of my ancestors ? Laughing

I'm surprised this isn't locked for being racist.

Excuse me, have you noticed how all African-Americans named "Brown" look alike?
