I've been searching around several gyms in Dunsan, Daejeon and I can't find a single one that has a power rack to do squats/over head presses! All they have are crappy smith machines! which are bad for your knees and are actually more dangerous (despite being marketed as safer)

is this a korean thing not to use power racks?

Longshot: Anyone know of a gym in Daejeon that has one? I'd be willing to travel for a powerrack as I can't do my exercises without doing squats and presses

I suggest buying one. Seriously: most gyms in Korea don't have them. Maybe you could give it to the gym in exchange for free membership for a while.

Not many gyms have them, just the Smith machines. I was back in the USA recently and saw them for a bit more than $100 for a "cheap" set. I wonder if there is anywhere in Korea that sells them?

I might do that. I'll print out photos of it, get a Korean friend to write out a letter, and submit it to the gym.
Smith machines are bad for the knees and should be avoided

I *think* Roxy has one... I am going on Thursday for a facial (not Roxy, but the skincare place next door) and will check it out and report back.

thanks tzechuk

Ok, the Timeworld Gym on the 11th floor has a squat rack! The bad news is that membership costs 85,000 won a month the hours are only 6:00 to 22:00 during the week and 19:00 and 20:00 on sunday and saturday Sad

so if I can get my lazy ass out of bed before noon I might head over before work

Here's tzechuk reporting back after visiting Roxy.

They have loads of treadmills (like 50) and they have a power rack like the one you showed in the picture.

The only thing is that it's expensive. You can pay monthly, 3 monthly, half yearly and yearly. Monthly it's 90,000 won and 3 monthly is 230,000. Half yearly is something else I can't remember.. yearly is 630,000 I think, which makes it just over 50K a month.

Hope this helps.
